A series of shootings in Ann Arbor between September 2025 and June 2026 left two teenagers dead, several people wounded, and multiple young men facing state murder charges or federal firearms counts. The cases are moving through Washtenaw County Trial Court and federal court in Detroit, and investigators have linked several of them through a common thread: illegally modified semi-automatic firearms converted to fire fully automatic. Here is where the main Ann Arbor shootings stand.
Killing of Chikylah Richardson on Pear Street
On the afternoon of December 7, 2025, 17-year-old Chikylah Richardson of Pittsfield Township was shot and killed inside an apartment in the 1400 block of Pear Street. Police arrived around 1:20 p.m. and found her dead from a gunshot wound. Neither Richardson nor the suspect lived at the complex. Federal Machine Gun Case Against Armon Daniel
Federal prosecutors charged 19-year-old Armon Carleton Daniel of Ann Arbor with illegal possession of a machine gun after a joint investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and Homeland Security Investigations. HSI records identified a website trafficking conversion devices, and a December 2025 purchase order from that site had shipped to an Ann Arbor address linked to Daniel. A search warrant for Meta records tied to his Instagram account, “@Armizey,” turned up photos of firearms equipped with conversion devices.9ClickOnDetroit. October 2025 University of Michigan Shelter-in-Place
One widely reported Ann Arbor incident was not a shooting at all. On October 23, 2025, the University of Michigan issued a shelter-in-place order after reports of possible shots fired on Division Street near campus around 8:00 a.m. Officers closed a stretch of South Division Street and gave an all-clear at 8:39 a.m. after determining no shots had been fired. One woman was arrested at the scene on an unrelated probation violation.14MLive. Shelter-in-Place Notice Near University of Michigan Prompted by Fight
Washtenaw County Homicide Trend
The run of high-profile cases arrived against a backdrop of falling homicide numbers countywide. Washtenaw County recorded 10 homicides in 2024, down from 23 in 2023, with the count dropping for three consecutive years. Six of the 2024 homicides took place in Ypsilanti Township rather than Ann Arbor.
