A Bellevue red light camera ticket costs $124, is treated under Washington law like a parking ticket, and will not appear on your driving record or raise your insurance rates. The citation is tied to your license plate rather than to you as a driver, and King County District Court handles payment and hearings. You have a deadline printed on the notice, and responding before it, whether by paying or by requesting a hearing, is what keeps a small ticket from turning into a collections problem.
Where the Cameras Are
Bellevue’s red light cameras cover four intersections, each aimed at specific directions of travel:
- NE 8th Street at 112th Avenue NE — eastbound and westbound
- NE 8th Street at 116th Avenue NE — westbound
- Bel-Red Road at 148th Avenue NE — northbound and southbound
- Main Street at 148th Avenue NE — southbound

The Fine and Your Driving Record
The fine is $124.2City of Bellevue. Bellevue City Code 11.49.080 – Penalties Washington law requires automated camera infractions to be processed the same way as parking tickets, so they are not reported under the state’s driving record statutes. Your insurance company won’t see the ticket and your rates won’t change because of it.3Washington State Legislature. Washington State Code 46.63.170 – Automated Traffic Safety Cameras The citation attaches to the vehicle’s license plate, not to anyone’s driver’s license.
What the Notice Includes and How to See the Evidence
After a captured violation, the city has 14 days to mail a notice of infraction to the registered owner at the address on file with the Department of Licensing.3Washington State Legislature. How to Pay
King County District Court handles payment. You have four options:5King County, Washington. Photo Enforced Tickets
- Online, through the King County District Court e-Filing/Case Access portal
- By phone at 844-399-5259
- By mail, with a check or money order payable to King County District Court, sent to 516 Third Avenue, Room E-340, Seattle, WA 98104, with the infraction number written on the payment
- In person at any King County District Court location, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Pay before the deadline on your notice. Missing it adds a $25 penalty and sets up collections down the road.
How to Contest or Ask for a Reduction
Two kinds of hearings are available. A mitigation hearing is where you accept that the violation happened and ask the judge to lower the fine or let you pay over time. A contested hearing is where you argue the violation didn’t occur, or that you aren’t the responsible party.
You can request either hearing three ways: online through the King County District Court e-filing portal, by checking the box on the back of your ticket and mailing it to the court address on the front, or in person at any King County District Court location.5King County, Washington. If You Weren’t Driving
The ticket goes to the registered owner by default, but Washington law lets you overcome that presumption.7Washington State Legislature. Washington State Code 46.63.220 – Automated Traffic Safety Cameras The usual route is a declaration of non-responsibility stating that the vehicle was stolen, sold, or in someone else’s possession at the time. You sign it under penalty of perjury and submit it before the deadline on your notice.
Two limits are worth knowing. If the car is a company vehicle, an employer generally cannot push the ticket onto the employee who was driving; the registered owner stays responsible. Rental car companies follow a separate procedure under the same statute where they can identify the renter or pay the fine themselves.
If You Ignore the Ticket
A $25 penalty gets added for failing to respond, and the unpaid balance will be sent to a collection agency. If you plan to contest, still file the hearing request before the deadline. That keeps the citation out of collections while you wait for your date.
A Note on the 2026 Speed Cameras
Bellevue is launching a separate speed safety camera program in 2026, with 14 cameras at seven locations. Those cameras target speeding, operate under a different section of Washington law, and are not the red light cameras discussed above. Warning signs and cameras are planned for spring 2026 installation, with activation in summer 2026 and a 30-day grace period before tickets are issued.8City of Bellevue.
