Building Use Tax
Projects requiring a building permit prepay the use tax at issuance. The city estimates construction material costs at half the project’s total valuation and collects 3% on that estimate up front. Once the permit is in hand and shown to the seller, you don’t pay Golden sales tax at the register on construction materials. After the project finishes, the city reconciles actual material costs against the estimate and either bills the difference or issues a refund.4City of Golden. Taxes and Fees
