Proof of Citizenship and Why It Matters
Arizona sorts registered voters into two tiers based on whether they provide documentary proof of citizenship. Submit proof and you receive a full ballot covering federal, state, county, and local races. Register with the federal form alone and no proof, and your ballot is limited to the presidential race, U.S. Senate, and U.S. House.6Arizona Legislature. If You Have a Felony Conviction
A felony conviction suspends your right to vote in Arizona. For a first felony, voting rights are restored automatically once you complete probation or are discharged from prison and have paid all restitution owed to victims. No petition or paperwork is required when the conviction was in Arizona. If the first felony was from another state, the same conditions apply, but you file a short application with the court, which grants it without a hearing.10Arizona Secretary of State. Registration Requirements
With two or more felony convictions, restoration is not automatic. You must file a petition in the Superior Court of the county where each conviction occurred, and you can petition once you have completed probation or waited two years after discharge from prison, provided fines and restitution are paid. One point to remember either way: restoration of rights does not re-register you. You still have to complete the registration process before you can vote.10Arizona Secretary of State.
