2026 Release Dates
The Office of Attorney Admissions sets release dates well before each administration and posts them on its official website. For 2026:
- February 2026 exam: results released April 23, 2026.
- July 2026 exam: results released September 17, 2026.
Those are the dates individual scores go out. The public pass list, which names everyone who passed, goes up on the Office of Attorney Admissions website shortly after.1Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel. What Counts as Passing
Colorado administers the Uniform Bar Exam, and you need a scaled score of at least 270 to pass.4Colorado Judicial Branch. Colorado Supreme Court Reduces Minimum Passing Score for Bar Exam That threshold dropped from 276 in 2023, so older study resources that reference the higher cutoff are out of date. The score is portable to other UBE jurisdictions.
Your total combines three components on a 400-point scale:
- The Multistate Bar Examination (MBE), 200 multiple-choice questions, worth 50% of your score.
- The Multistate Essay Examination (MEE), written analysis across several subject areas, worth 30%.
- The Multistate Performance Test (MPT), practical tasks drawn from a provided file and library, worth 20%.
All three are developed by the National Conference of Bar Examiners.5National Conference of Bar Examiners. The Uniform Bar Examination The MBE is machine-scored by NCBE; the written portions are graded by Colorado-appointed graders.
Recent Pass Rates
Pass rates differ sharply between the two annual administrations. July exams draw mostly first-time takers coming out of law school; February exams have a higher share of repeat takers, which pulls the overall rate down.
- July 2025: 75% overall, 80% for first-time takers.6National Conference of Bar Examiners. Bar Exam Results by Jurisdiction
- July 2024: 80% overall, with 597 of 744 examinees passing.7Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel. General Statistics for the July 2024 Colorado Bar Exam
- February 2025: about 53% overall, with roughly 116 of 220 examinees passing.
Content and scoring methodology are identical across both administrations, so the gap reflects who sits, not how the exam is graded.
You Passed. Now What?
A passing score alone does not license you. A few more pieces have to be in place before you can take the oath and start practicing.
Practicing With Professionalism Course
Every applicant must attend a one-day “Practicing with Professionalism” course run by the Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel and the Colorado Bar Association-CLE. You can take it before or after the exam, but admission is not cleared until it’s done. Credit is valid for 18 months after completion, so taking it too early can mean taking it twice.8Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel. Practicing with Professionalism Course
MPRE Score
You need a Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination score of at least 85 on file with the admissions office.9Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel. MPRE Requirement for Law Admission Most applicants take the MPRE during law school. Colorado’s 85 sits near the top of the national range, which runs from 75 to 86 depending on the state.
Character and Fitness
The Office of Attorney Admissions investigates every applicant’s background under C.R.C.P. 208, covering criminal history, financial responsibility, and professional conduct.10Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel. Character and Fitness Standards and Guidelines This investigation runs alongside the exam process for most applicants, but unresolved issues can hold up admission even after everything else is done.
Oath of Admission
Once your other requirements are complete, you take the Oath of Admission at a weekly ceremony conducted over Zoom. The Office of Attorney Registration confirms your attendance and activates your license after the ceremony.11Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel. Admissions Ceremony and Oath of Admission
If You Didn’t Pass
Applicants who fall short still get a full score breakdown by component. That breakdown is the most useful retake tool you have, because it points you to the sections where added study time will do the most work.

Transferring a Score From Another State
Because Colorado is a UBE jurisdiction, you can transfer a qualifying score from another state instead of sitting for the Colorado exam. The minimum transferred score is the same 270 required of Colorado examinees.15Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel. Eligibility Requirements for Application by Uniform Bar Exam Score Transfer
Age limits apply. A UBE score must have been earned within three years of your Colorado application. Scores between three and five years old can still qualify if you have been actively practicing law for at least two of the years immediately before applying.16Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel. UBE Score Transfer The Professionalism course, MPRE, and character and fitness review still apply, and score-transfer applicants must complete the Professionalism course within six months of admission.
A Note on the Format Change Ahead
Colorado will begin accepting transferred NextGen UBE scores starting with the July 2026 administration, and the first Colorado-administered NextGen exam is scheduled for July 2028.17National Conference of Bar Examiners. NextGen UBE Decisions by Jurisdiction If you’re sitting in 2026 or February 2028, you’re still on the current UBE format described above.
