Florida GED Requirements: Subjects, Scoring, and Cost

To earn a high school equivalency credential in Florida, you must pass four GED subject tests with a score of at least 145 out of 200 on each. The Florida GED requirements also set an age floor of 18, though 16- and 17-year-olds can test after formally withdrawing from school and completing an underage waiver. Testing runs through GED.com at $38 per subject, or $152 for all four.

Who Can Take the GED in Florida

Three conditions apply. You cannot already hold a high school diploma or equivalency credential, you cannot be currently enrolled in an accredited high school, and you must be at least 18 years old. Florida does not require state residency, but you need a valid government-issued ID and a Florida address when you register.1GED Testing Service. Florida – GED

Your ID has to be unexpired, and the name on it must match the name on your GED.com account. A driver’s license, passport, military ID, or state ID card works. If the ID is expired or the names don’t line up, the testing center will turn you away and your fee is gone.

If You Are 16 or 17

Underage testing is allowed but takes extra steps. First, withdraw from school by filing a declaration of intent to terminate enrollment with your school district under Florida Statutes Section 1003.21. The declaration needs your parent’s signature, and your school counselor will conduct an exit interview before the withdrawal is final.2Justia Law. Florida Code 1003 – Section 1003.21

Then create an account on GED.com and complete the Underage Testing Form with a parent or legal guardian’s notarized signature. Send the notarized form and proof of withdrawal to the Florida Department of Education’s High School Equivalency office at GEDagewaiver@fldoe.org or by fax.3Florida Department of Education. The Four Subject Tests

The exam is split into four subjects, taken on a computer at an official testing center. You can take them one at a time, in any order, at your own pace.4GED. GED Test Subjects

  • Reasoning Through Language Arts: 150 minutes. Reading comprehension, grammar, and an extended written response.
  • Mathematical Reasoning: 115 minutes. Algebra, quantitative problem solving, and some geometry and data analysis.
  • Science: 90 minutes. Life science, physical science, and earth and space science.
  • Social Studies: 70 minutes. U.S. history, civics and government, economics, and geography.
