Florida Medicaid OTC Benefits: Allowances by Plan and Ordering

If you’re enrolled in a Florida Medicaid managed care plan, your Florida Medicaid OTC benefits give you a monthly allowance to order approved over-the-counter health, personal-care, and household items at no cost. Allowances currently run from $25 to $70 a month depending on the plan, and whatever you don’t spend by the last day of the month is gone. Standard fee-for-service Medicaid does not include this benefit; it comes from the managed care plan, which runs the program through a vendor — usually CVS OTC Health Solutions, or CenterWell Pharmacy if you’re with Humana.

How Much You Get Each Month by Plan

The dollar amount depends entirely on which managed care plan you’re enrolled in. Here is where the major Florida plans currently stand:

  • Aetna Better Health of Florida: $65 per household per month for both Managed Medical Assistance and Long-Term Care members.1Aetna Better Health. OTC Benefit
  • Florida Community Care: $65 per household per month.2Florida Community Care Health Plan. Pharmacy Resources for Members
  • Molina Complete Care of Florida: $65 per household per month for non-pregnant members, $70 for pregnant members.3Molina Healthcare. Prescription Drugs
  • UnitedHealthcare Community Plan: $65 per month.4UHC Provider. FL Medicaid Expanded Member Benefits
  • Humana Healthy Horizons: $50 per month.5Humana. Florida Medicaid Pharmacy Coverage
  • Community Care Plan: $50 per household per month.6Community Care Plan. OTC Catalog
  • Sunshine Health (Medicaid MMA): $25 per household per month as of July 1, 2026, reduced from a previous $50 allowance.7Sunshine Health. Benefits
  • Sunshine Health (Children’s Medical Services): $25 per month.8Sunshine Health. CMS OTC Mobile App
  • Simply Healthcare: $25 per month.9Simply Healthcare Plans. Expanded Benefits

Because each plan sets its own allowance, switching plans during open enrollment can change what you receive. Sunshine Health, for example, said its drop to $25 was made “in order to offer all the new benefits” it introduced on June 1, 2026.7Sunshine Health. Benefits

Rules That Trip People Up

A handful of rules apply across most Florida Medicaid OTC programs:

  • No rollover. Any unused portion of your monthly allowance is forfeited on the last day of the month.1Aetna Better Health. OTC Benefit
  • Quantity limits. Most catalogs cap any single item at three units per month or quarter, with tighter limits (one per year, in some cases) on specific products.12Sunshine Health. Medicaid OTC Mobile App
  • Personal use only. Items are for the enrolled member and cannot be resold or transferred.
  • No returns or exchanges. Report any problem with your order to the vendor within 30 days.10Florida Community Care Health Plan. OTC Item Catalog
  • Short cancellation window. Online and phone orders can only be cancelled within 30 minutes of placement.1Aetna Better Health. OTC Benefit
  • Substitutions. If something is out of stock, the vendor may substitute a product of similar or greater value.10Florida Community Care Health Plan. OTC Item Catalog

Why the Benefit Varies So Much

Florida does not set a uniform OTC allowance for Medicaid. Each managed care plan offers the benefit as a supplemental extra on top of required Medicaid services, which is why the dollar amount, the vendor, the catalog, and the ordering experience all differ. To compare before an enrollment change, pull up each plan’s OTC catalog and benefit summary on its website, or call its member services line.
