The Georgia food stamps customer service number is 1-877-423-4746. It is the toll-free line for the Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS), the state agency that runs SNAP, and it connects you to live representatives during business hours and an automated self-service system around the clock.1Georgia Department of Human Services. Live agents are available Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Outside those hours, the automated system can still pull up your case status and recent benefit amounts.1Georgia Department of Human Services. The same number covers Medicaid, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, and general benefit questions, so you don’t need a different line for each program.1Georgia Department of Human Services. Contact
Lost or Stolen EBT Card: Different Number
If your call is about your EBT card itself — a lost or stolen card, a card that stopped working, or a balance check — call 1-888-421-3281 instead. That line connects directly to EBT card services and is separate from the main DFCS number.2Georgia Department of Human Services Division of Family & Children Services. Contact Information
Report a missing card the moment you notice it. Benefits spent by someone else before you report the card gone are generally not replaced, so the sooner you call, the more of your balance you can protect.
Hearing-Impaired Callers
If you are deaf or hard of hearing, dial 711 to reach DFCS through the telecommunications relay service. The operator relays the conversation between you and the DFCS representative.
What to Have Ready Before You Call
Without your identifiers in hand, the system can’t pull up your file and an agent has to walk you through extra verification. Have three things ready:
- The Social Security number of the head of household
- That person’s date of birth
- Your ten-digit Case Identification Number
The Case ID is printed in the upper right corner of DFCS letters and approval notices, so keeping a recent piece of correspondence next to the phone is the fastest way to find it. If your paperwork is gone, you can also look it up by signing in to your Georgia Gateway account.
When Georgia Gateway Is Faster Than Calling
For routine tasks, the online portal at gateway.ga.gov will save you a wait. Once you have an account, you can apply or renew, upload pay stubs and other verification documents, check your current balance, report changes, and view notices from DFCS.3Georgia.gov. After you submit a document or report a change through Gateway, save the confirmation page with its tracking number. That confirmation is your proof if a caseworker later asks whether you reported something on time. The portal is open at any hour, which makes it more convenient than the phone line for balance checks and document uploads.
Calling to Report a Household Change
Georgia requires you to report changes that affect eligibility or benefit amount: a new or lost job, income going up or down, someone moving in or out, or a change of address. You can report through Georgia Gateway, by calling 1-877-423-4746, or at a local office.2Georgia Department of Human Services Division of Family & Children Services. Contact Information
Report within ten days. Failing to report promptly can result in overpayments you’ll have to repay, usually by DFCS reducing your future allotments until the balance is recovered.
Calling to Request a Fair Hearing
If DFCS denies your application, reduces your benefits, or closes your case and you think the decision is wrong, you can request a fair hearing. Call 1-877-423-4746, write to your local office, or submit the request through Georgia Gateway. A hearing officer reviews the evidence and issues a decision.
Federal rules require the state to hold the hearing, decide, and notify you of the outcome within 60 days. If you request the hearing before the effective date of a benefit reduction or termination, your benefits typically continue at the current level until the hearing officer rules. Waiting past that effective date can cost you the continued-benefit protection, so call as soon as you receive the notice.
