Who Files Form 600

Every domestic corporation organized under Georgia law files Form 600 regardless of where its income is earned. A foreign corporation (one organized in another state or country) files if it owns property in Georgia or earns income from sources in the state. An LLC that has elected to be taxed as a corporation federally also files Form 600 and owes both taxes.3Georgia Department of Revenue. What to Have in Front of You

The federal return is the backbone of the Georgia return. Line 1 of Schedule 1 pulls directly from federal taxable income, and you must attach a complete copy of Form 1120 and its supporting schedules.4Georgia Department of Revenue. C Corporations – FAQ Before you open Form 600, pull together:

  • The prior year’s ending balance sheet. Georgia’s net worth tax is based on net worth at the close of the preceding tax year, not the current year.3Georgia Department of Revenue. Net Worth Tax for Corporations – FAQ
  • Gross receipts broken out between Georgia and everywhere else, if you operate in more than one state. You need both figures for the apportionment ratio on Schedule 7.
  • Records of interest from other states’ bonds, state and foreign income taxes deducted federally, and interest on U.S. government obligations. Each requires an adjustment on the Georgia return.
  • Officer names and titles, your registered agent, and any parent company information the form asks for.

Calculating Georgia Income Tax

Start with federal taxable income from Form 1120, measured before the federal net operating loss and special deductions. Then apply the adjustments in O.C.G.A. § 48-7-21.5FindLaw. Georgia Code Title 48 Revenue and Taxation 48-7-21 The two you will almost always use:

  • Add back interest income from bonds issued by other states or their subdivisions that was excluded federally, and add back any state, local, or foreign income taxes deducted on the federal return.
  • Subtract interest and dividends on U.S. government obligations that were included in federal gross income but are exempt from state tax under federal law.

The result is Georgia taxable net income. Multiply by 5.19% for tax years beginning on or after January 1, 2025.1Georgia Department of Revenue. 2025 IT-611 Corporate Income Tax Instruction Booklet Georgia allows a net operating loss deduction on Schedule 9, subject to the 80% limitation described in the IT-611 instruction booklet.6Georgia Department of Revenue. Apportionment for Multi-State Corporations

If your corporation earns income inside and outside Georgia, you don’t pay tax on all of it. Schedule 7 divides gross receipts from business within Georgia by gross receipts everywhere to produce a Georgia ratio. Schedule 6 applies that ratio to apportionable business income, and income that belongs specifically to Georgia (such as rents from Georgia property) is added separately on Schedule 6, Line 6.6Georgia Department of Revenue. Georgia Form 600 – Corporation Tax Return Foreign corporations compute a separate ratio for the net worth tax on Schedule 8.

Calculating the Net Worth Tax

The net worth tax is a separate liability reported on the same form.7Georgia Department of Revenue. If You File or Pay Late

Georgia runs separate penalty schedules for the income tax and the net worth tax, and they stack on the same return.

On the income tax side, late filing costs 5% of the unpaid tax for each month or partial month, capped at 25%.15Justia Law. Georgia Code 48-7-57 – Penalties for Failure to File Timely Late payment adds 0.5% per month or partial month, also capped at 25%.1Georgia Department of Revenue. 2025 IT-611 Corporate Income Tax Instruction Booklet The late-filing penalty is waived when the failure is due to reasonable cause rather than willful neglect.

Net worth tax penalties are flatter: 10% of the tax due for delinquent filing and 10% for delinquent payment.1Georgia Department of Revenue. 2025 IT-611 Corporate Income Tax Instruction Booklet Because the maximum net worth tax is $5,000, those dollar amounts stay small, but they compound with the income tax penalties on the same late return.

Interest runs on any unpaid balance from the original due date at the Federal Reserve prime rate plus 3%, reviewed by the Department of Revenue each January.16Georgia Department of Revenue. Penalty and Interest Rates
