Why the Old DHEC Number May Not Reach You

On July 1, 2024, the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control was abolished and split in two. Clinical services moved to the new South Carolina Department of Public Health (DPH). Septic permits, well water, and other environmental programs moved to the Department of Environmental Services (DES). Retail food safety moved to the SC Department of Agriculture.2South Carolina Department of Public Health. Historical: S.C. Board of Health and Environmental Control

The old general DHEC line (864-282-4100) may no longer land you where you expect. Each new agency runs its own phone lines, so matching your issue to the right agency before you dial saves a transfer.
