Real Estate Database2Henrico County, Virginia. Finance Older files, certified copies, and anything that isn’t digitized come from the Department of Finance directly, either at the counter or through a written request.

Looking Up Real Estate Records

The real estate database accepts five search fields: property address, current owner name, January 1 owner name, the Geographic Parcel Identification Number (GPIN), or the legal description.1Henrico County, Virginia. Real Estate Database The GPIN is the cleanest search because it’s unique to one parcel. Common surnames and similar street names produce false hits; a GPIN does not.

Click into a result and the full record opens. You’ll see the current land and improvement values, a physical description of the property, and an assessment history showing how the value has changed year over year. The same screen displays the current tax bill, any outstanding balance, and whether a delinquency has pushed penalties onto the account.

Assessment records are public by statute. Virginia law requires that property appraisal cards held by local assessing officers stay open for inspection during normal office hours once reassessment notices go out, and any property owner can also request the working papers behind their assessed value — the comparable sales, capitalization rates, and methodology the assessor used.3Virginia Code Commission. Virginia Code 58.1-3331 – Public Disclosure of Certain Assessment Records That right sits outside FOIA and carries no inspection fee.

Looking Up Personal Property Records

Personal property taxes cover vehicles, trailers, motorcycles, and similar registered assets. On the Paymentus portal, “Pay Now” gives you a quick balance lookup without an account. Logging in with an account unlocks historical bills and payment confirmations.2Henrico County, Virginia. Finance Select “Personal Property Tax” after you’re in, and you’ll see the most recent bill, the assessed value of each registered asset, and the amount due or already paid.

If the point of the lookup is proof that a past year was paid — common when selling a vehicle or satisfying a lender — toggle between tax years inside the account history and generate a receipt from there.

Business Personal Property Records

Business personal property runs on a separate filing track. Businesses must file a personal property return by March 1 each year reporting assets owned as of January 1, using Schedule 80 for furniture and fixtures, Schedule 85 for equipment such as computers and satellite systems, Schedule 95 for leased equipment, and a Machinery and Tools return for assets used directly in manufacturing, processing, mining, broadcasting, dairy, dry-cleaning, or laundry operations.4Henrico County, Virginia. Business Personal Property Tax Licensed vehicles don’t go on these schedules; they’re reported through the standard personal property process.

Missing the March 1 filing deadline triggers a 10% late-filing penalty on the total personal property tax, which is separate from any late-payment penalty.5Henrico County, Virginia. Real Estate and Personal Property Due Dates/Penalties and Interest File late and pay late, and you get hit with both.
