A one-day fishing license in Oregon costs $29 in 2026, and the price is the same whether you live in Oregon or you’re visiting.1Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife. What it doesn’t cover is salmon, steelhead, sturgeon, and halibut, and that’s where a day of Oregon fishing can get considerably more expensive.
What the $29 Actually Covers
The daily license lets you fish for trout, bass, bluegill, crappie, other warmwater species, and general ocean species, and it lets you harvest clams or crabs the same day without a separate shellfish license.2Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife. What the daily license does not cover, on its own, is fishing for salmon, steelhead, sturgeon, or halibut. Those species require an additional tag.
Add-Ons That Change Your Real Cost
Combined Angling Tag
Anyone 18 or older fishing for salmon, steelhead, sturgeon, or halibut has to carry a Combined Angling Tag.3Oregon Secretary of State. Annual Angling – Combined Angling Tag, Adult It’s sold only as an annual tag, not a daily one, and it costs $69 for residents or $89 for non-residents.1Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife. ODFW Revised Fee Schedule 2026 A day-trip visitor chasing salmon still has to buy the full annual tag on top of the $29 daily license. This is the add-on that most surprises out-of-state anglers.
Columbia River Basin Endorsement
Fishing for salmon, steelhead, or sturgeon anywhere in the Columbia River Basin, including tributaries, requires a Columbia River Basin Endorsement.4Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife. Ocean Endorsement

What a Real Day Actually Costs
- One day of trout, bass, or panfish on an inland lake: $29.
- One day of crabbing or clamming at the coast: $29 (shellfish is included).
- One day of ocean fishing for non-salmon species: $29 + $1 ocean endorsement = $30.
- One day of salmon fishing on the Willamette: $29 + $69 Combined Angling Tag = $98.
- One day of salmon fishing on the Columbia: $29 + $69 Combined Angling Tag + $1 Columbia Basin Endorsement = $99.
If you’re not targeting salmon, steelhead, sturgeon, or halibut, your total stays at or very near $29.
Who Doesn’t Pay $29
Children 11 and younger don’t need a license at all.2Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife. Everyone 12 and older otherwise needs a license, resident or visitor.7Oregon Public Law. Oregon Code ORS 497.075 – General License, Tag and Permit Requirements; Exemptions Residency generally means having lived in Oregon for at least six consecutive months before applying.
Free Fishing Weekends
ODFW designates three weekends a year when no license, tag, or endorsement is required to fish anywhere in Oregon. In 2026 those dates are February 14–15 (Presidents’ Day weekend), June 6–7, and November 27–28 (Thanksgiving weekend).8Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife. 2026 Free Fishing Days and Events The waiver covers the license, Combined Angling Tag, Columbia Basin Endorsement, and ocean endorsement. When a Multi-Day or Annual License Is Cheaper
Multi-day licenses lower the per-day cost if you’re fishing more than once:
- Two-day: $48.
- Three-day: $68.
- Seven-day, non-residents only: $117.
A resident annual angling license costs $50, so once you’re at three or more days in a calendar year, the annual pays off.1Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife. ODFW Revised Fee Schedule 2026 For non-residents, the annual is $138 and breaks even at about five days. One catch: the annual angling license doesn’t include shellfish the way the daily combo does. A separate annual shellfish license is $13 for residents, $37 for non-residents.
Where to Buy It
You can buy a daily license online through the MyODFW electronic licensing system and either print it or display it on the MyODFW app.9Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife. ODFW Electronic Licensing System If you use the app, keep your phone charged; Oregon requires you to show your license on demand, and a dead battery isn’t an excuse. ODFW recommends carrying a backup battery.

One Boundary: National Park Waters
Your Oregon license covers most public waters in the state, but national park units such as Crater Lake can set their own rules. The National Park Service generally follows state fishing regulations but can override them, and where they conflict, the NPS rule controls.11National Park Service.
