A Kentucky REAL ID costs $48 for an eight-year operator’s license or $24 for a four-year license, paid at any Regional Driver Licensing Office. Non-driver ID cards run cheaper, and if you already hold a standard Kentucky license you can often upgrade for a flat $15 instead of paying full price.

The $15 Upgrade, Replacement, and Correction Fee
If you already hold a standard Kentucky license and want to switch to a REAL ID before your card expires, the upgrade costs $15 and keeps your current expiration date. You qualify only if your card has more than six months left on it. Inside that six-month window, you have to do a full renewal at the standard $24 or $48 price instead.2DRIVE. A certified birth certificate ordered from a state vital records office typically runs between $10 and $30, though some states charge more. Replacing a lost Social Security card through the Social Security Administration is free but takes time. If your birth certificate was issued by another state and has to be requested by mail, build that into your timeline as well.
Name-change paperwork can add another line item. If your current legal name differs from the name on your birth certificate, Kentucky accepts a certified marriage certificate, a certified divorce decree that granted the name change, or a court-ordered name change document. A marriage license by itself is not accepted.
