Once the system confirms the PIN, the card is active. If you fumble a digit, the prompt lets you try again.

Changing your PIN periodically is a good habit, especially if you suspect someone watched you enter it at a store or ATM.

Check Your Balance to Confirm It Worked

Once you have activated, confirm the card is live by pulling up your balance. Any of these work:

  • Save your last store receipt. Most stores print the remaining balance at the bottom after every EBT purchase.

If you receive both SNAP and Cash Assistance, you will see a separate balance for each. SNAP funds are limited to eligible food purchases, while Cash Assistance works more like a debit account with broader spending and ATM access.

Freeze the Card Between Uses
