How to Activate Your Georgia EBT Card: Phone, Online, or App

To activate your Georgia EBT card, call 1-888-421-3281 and follow the prompts to set a four-digit PIN, or register the card online at connectebt.com and choose your PIN there. Either method takes only a few minutes, and the card is ready to use as soon as you finish.

Activate by Phone

Call 1-888-421-3281. The automated system asks for the 16-digit card number printed on the front of the card, then walks you through selecting a four-digit PIN. Once you confirm the PIN, the card is active.1Georgia Division of Family and Children Services. 3805 Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) – Section: EBT Card

Have the card in hand before you call. You’ll need the number, and you’ll need to be ready to pick a PIN on the spot.

Activate Online at ConnectEBT

Go to connectebt.com and select Georgia as your state. If you don’t already have an account, register by entering your EBT card number, the zip code on file with your case, and your date of birth. You’ll then create a user ID and password. Once the account is set up, you can select your PIN through the portal.2Georgia Department of Human Services Division of Family & Children Services. Setting up the online account at activation is worth the extra couple of minutes. It’s what you’ll use later to check your balance, review transactions, and lock the card between purchases.

Using the ConnectEBT App Instead

The ConnectEBT app on Google Play and the Apple App Store does the same things as the website from your phone. You can select your PIN, check your SNAP balance, and view deposits and transaction history. The app also supports biometric login and card scanning, which makes the initial registration faster than typing your card number.2Georgia Department of Human Services Division of Family & Children Services. Pick a PIN You Can Remember but Nobody Can Guess

You’ll enter this PIN every time you buy groceries or check your balance, so it has to be something you can recall without hesitation. It also has to be something a stranger holding your card can’t guess in a few tries. Skip your birth year, the year on the card, repeating digits, and simple sequences.

If someone gets hold of your card and figures out the PIN, your benefits can be drained before you notice, and recovering stolen funds isn’t always straightforward.

What You Can Do Once the Card Is Active

Activation gets you three things right away: the ability to shop, access to your balance, and a way to see when benefits load.

Georgia staggers SNAP deposits between the 5th and 23rd of the month, based on the last two digits of your case ID number:

  • 00–09: 5th of the month
  • 10–19: 7th of the month
  • 20–29: 9th of the month
  • 30–39: 11th of the month
  • 40–49: 13th of the month
  • 50–59: 15th of the month
  • 60–69: 17th of the month
  • 70–79: 19th of the month
  • 80–89: 21st of the month
  • 90–99: 23rd of the month

Your case ID number is on the approval notice you received from the Division of Family and Children Services. Once your card is active, your deposit date and current balance both show up in the ConnectEBT app or website.

At the store, swipe or insert the card at the payment terminal, enter your PIN, and the purchase amount comes off your SNAP balance. Your remaining balance prints on the receipt.

If You Forget the PIN You Just Set

You can reset your PIN anytime through the ConnectEBT website, the ConnectEBT app, or by calling 1-888-421-3281. You don’t need to request a new card just because you forgot the PIN.2Georgia Department of Human Services Division of Family & Children Services. ConnectEBT Website and Mobile App

If the Card Is Lost or Stolen Before You Use It

Call 1-888-421-3281 immediately to report the card and prevent anyone else from spending your benefits. You can also request a replacement through the ConnectEBT portal, or ask your county DFCS office to contact the state EBT team.1Georgia Division of Family and Children Services. 3805 Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) – Section: EBT Card The sooner you report it, the better your chances of protecting the balance.

One thing worth knowing before you request replacements repeatedly: federal rules require Georgia to monitor how often you ask for a new card. If you request a fourth replacement within 12 months, you’ll get a written notice saying the account is being watched for potential misuse. The letter lists how many cards you’ve requested, explains what counts as fraudulent use, and warns that continued suspicious activity could be referred to investigators.3eCFR. 7 CFR 274.6 – Replacement and Monitoring of EBT Cards Plenty of people need replacement cards for legitimate reasons, but the threshold is there, so it helps to know before the letter arrives.

A Note on TANF Cards

If you also receive Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) cash benefits, those come on a separate Way2Go Debit MasterCard, not your SNAP EBT card. The Way2Go card has its own customer service number, 1-800-656-1347, and its own activation and PIN process.4Georgia Division of Family and Children Services. 1910 Electronic Benefits Transfer – TANF Activating your SNAP EBT card doesn’t activate the TANF card, and vice versa.
