You can’t add a Connecticut driver’s license to Apple Wallet yet. The Connecticut DMV is building a mobile ID program expected to launch in the second half of 2026, and the initial version will be a standalone state app rather than an Apple Wallet credential. The DMV has said it is in talks with Apple, Google, and Samsung about wallet-based storage, but no date has been announced for that.
Where Connecticut’s Mobile ID Program Stands
Connecticut’s DMV commissioner has indicated digital driver’s licenses could become available to residents in the second half of 2026. The rollout will use a dedicated state app, similar to New York’s approach, rather than plugging directly into Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. The DMV has described the mobile ID as completely optional and a convenience, not a replacement for the physical card.
Apple’s ID in Wallet feature is currently live in 14 states: Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota, Ohio, and West Virginia. Connecticut is not on that list. Whether Apple Wallet support will follow the state’s standalone app launch is unresolved.
What Connecticut’s Digital ID Will and Won’t Do
Once the state app launches, stores, restaurants, and bars are expected to accept it for age verification and similar checks. Police will not accept the digital version in place of a physical license during traffic stops, at least at first. The DMV has also stated it will not track when or where residents use their mobile ID.
No business is required to accept a digital ID, and that will remain true in Connecticut. Acceptance tends to expand slowly as more retailers install compatible readers.
You Still Have to Carry the Physical License

Even after the state’s mobile ID launches, the DMV has said police won’t accept it during traffic stops. The digital version is aimed at commercial situations like buying alcohol or checking into a hotel. Keep the plastic card accessible when you drive. The glove compartment or center console works, as long as you can produce it when asked.
What the Apple Wallet Enrollment Process Looks Like
In states where Apple Wallet integration is live, you open the Wallet app on your iPhone, tap the add button at the top of the screen, and select the driver’s license or state ID option. The app walks you through scanning the front and back of your physical card using the phone’s camera, so you need the plastic card handy and good lighting.3Apple Support. After the scan, you complete a selfie or live photo to confirm you’re a real person holding the phone. The app may prompt you to smile or turn your head, holding each position until the phone vibrates. Your information then goes to the state’s DMV for review. You’ll get a notification once the review is done. Rejections happen for reasons like blurry photos, a damaged camera lens, or a mismatch between the card data and state records. If Connecticut eventually joins Apple Wallet, the process is likely to follow the same shape, though the specific device and software requirements can vary by state.
Airport Security and Out-of-State Digital IDs
The most common use for a digital ID today is at airport security. TSA accepts digital IDs from participating states at more than 250 airports nationwide.4Transportation Security Administration. If you hold a driver’s license from one of the 14 states currently supported by Apple Wallet, you can enroll that credential on your iPhone while living in Connecticut, but a Connecticut-issued license itself has to wait for the state’s program.
