To cancel your LVAC membership, send a written cancellation notice by USPS Certified Mail with Return Receipt Requested to the Las Vegas Athletic Clubs corporate office at 2655 South Maryland Parkway, Suite 201, Las Vegas, NV 89109.1Las Vegas Athletic Clubs. Contact Us – Las Vegas Athletic Clubs Expect to owe at least one more monthly payment covering the notice period, and if you signed a fixed-term contract, an early termination fee. Nevada law protects your right to cancel under specific circumstances, but the paper trail you create is what actually gets you out.
Send Written Notice by Certified Mail
The delivery method matters more than anything else. LVAC members have widely reported difficulty reaching anyone by phone or email, with cancellation requests going unacknowledged for weeks. Certified mail with a return receipt gives you a date-stamped record that the club received your notice, which is the evidence you need if the club later claims you never cancelled. Keep the green card and the tracking number until the account is fully closed and no further charges have hit your bank.
What to Put in the Letter
Keep the language simple and direct. Include:
- Your full legal name as it appears on the membership
- Your account number, printed on your scan tag or membership card
- Your current mailing address
- A clear statement that you are cancelling your membership
- The date
If you’re cancelling for a reason that removes the early termination fee, such as disability, attach your supporting documentation.
If You Cancel in Person
Some members have been directed to the corporate office on Maryland Parkway to cancel in person. Bring two copies of your letter and have the staff member who accepts it sign and date your second copy as a receipt. A verbal “we’ll take care of it” means nothing. If nobody will sign for the paperwork, don’t leave it. Mail it certified instead.
What You’ll Still Owe
Your specific obligations depend on which contract you signed. Most LVAC memberships are either a fixed-term agreement (often 12 or 24 months) or a month-to-month arrangement. Either way, expect one more monthly payment after you submit your cancellation, covering the notice period.
Fixed-term agreements typically carry an early termination fee. Members have reported this fee at around $50, though it can vary by contract version and circumstances. If you don’t have your copy of the contract, ask the front desk or email member services and get one before you send your cancellation letter, because the contract spells out your notice period and final billing.
If You Signed in the Last Three Business Days
You can cancel with no penalty at all. NRS 598.950 lets any Nevada health club member cancel within three business days of receiving a copy of the contract by delivering written notice in person or mailing it postmarked by midnight of the third business day. The club must return every dollar you paid within 15 days of receiving that notice.2Nevada Legislature. Nevada Code 598.950 – Cancellation of Contract by Buyer Notice Required Any waiver of this right written into your contract is void under NRS 598.962.
If You Become Disabled
NRS 598.954 gives you a separate cancellation right if you become disabled during the term of your contract. A physician must confirm in writing to the club that you can no longer use the facilities.3Nevada Legislature. Nevada Code 598.954 – Rights of Buyer Who Becomes Disabled This is a statutory right, so LVAC cannot refuse it or charge an early termination fee if your documentation meets the requirement. Get the letter on office letterhead, include your membership account number, and send it with your cancellation request.
If the Club Moves
If LVAC moves the location closest to your home more than 20 miles farther away than it was when you signed, you can rescind your contract and receive a pro rata refund based on how long you were a member.4Nevada Legislature. Nevada Code 598 – Deceptive Trade Practices This protection applies when the club moves, not when you do. If you’re the one relocating, your cancellation rights depend on what your specific contract says. Some LVAC contracts include a relocation clause that waives the early termination fee if you move a certain distance from any club location, so check your agreement.
Watch Your Statements After You Cancel
Monitor your bank or credit card statements for at least 60 days after LVAC acknowledges the cancellation. One final charge covering the notice period is normal. Anything after that is a billing error you need to dispute right away.
Contact your bank or credit card company to dispute the charge and use your certified mail return receipt or signed in-person acknowledgment as proof. Don’t just block the charges without formally cancelling through LVAC first: the club can treat the account as delinquent rather than cancelled and send the balance to collections.
Don’t Just Stop Paying
Walking away from your membership without formally cancelling can follow you for years. If your balance goes unpaid for roughly 90 days, the club can send it to an internal collections department or sell the debt to a third-party collector. A collection account on your credit report can drag down your score.
In a worst-case scenario, a debt collector or the club itself could sue. A judgment can lead to wage garnishment or a bank account levy, and while judgments no longer factor directly into credit scores, they remain public records lenders can review when deciding whether to approve a loan. Formal cancellation and any legitimate final payment costs less than dealing with collections.
If LVAC Won’t Honor Your Cancellation
A violation of the health club statutes in NRS 598.944 through 598.958 counts as a deceptive trade practice under Nevada law, which gives you real leverage.4Nevada Legislature. Nevada Code 598 – Deceptive Trade Practices
