To cancel your Houston Chronicle subscription, call customer service, manage the account through the Chronicle’s online subscription portal, or, if you signed up through Apple, Google, or Amazon, cancel through that platform. Cancel by Phone or Online
The Chronicle’s terms send you to the methods listed on its help pages, which come down to two: a phone call or the account portal.2Houston Chronicle. Terms of Use
To cancel by phone, call 713-362-7491 or the toll-free line at 888-220-7211. Have your account number ready along with the name and address on the account. Expect the representative to offer a reduced rate or a temporary pause before processing the cancellation. You are not obligated to accept. Say clearly that you want to cancel, confirm the effective date, and ask for a confirmation number or an email confirmation before you hang up.
To cancel online, log in at subscription.houstonchronicle.com and open the option to manage or cancel your subscription.3Houston Chronicle. Click through until you reach the final cancellation screen, then save or screenshot the confirmation page.
Cancel Through Apple, Google, or Amazon
If you originally subscribed through the Apple App Store, Google Play, or Amazon Kindle Newsstand, the Chronicle cannot cancel for you. Billing runs through the platform, and you have to cancel there. Calling the Chronicle about a third-party subscription only sends you back to the app store.
Apple
On an iPhone or iPad, open Settings, tap your name, then tap Subscriptions. Select the Houston Chronicle entry and tap Cancel Subscription.4Apple Support. Google Play
Open the Google Play Store app, tap your profile icon, and go to Subscriptions. Select the Houston Chronicle and tap Cancel. Finish this before your next renewal date to avoid another charge.
Amazon

What Happens After You Cancel
Your cancellation ends billing at the close of the current period. If you cancel two weeks into a monthly cycle, you keep access (or delivery, for print) for the remaining two weeks, and no new charge posts when the period ends.1Houston Chronicle. Subscriber Terms and Conditions
The no-refund policy is firm. The subscriber terms state that “payments are non-refundable and there are no refunds or credits for partially used billing periods.”1Houston Chronicle. Subscriber Terms and Conditions Timing your cancellation near the end of a billing cycle avoids paying for access you won’t use.
One exception matters. If the Chronicle raises your subscription price, the terms require notice, and you can cancel before the new rate takes effect. In that situation, you may be entitled to a refund of any fee already charged at the higher rate.2Houston Chronicle. Terms of Use
Why Your Rate May Have Changed
When you signed up, you were enrolled in the Chronicle’s Continuous Service Program (EZPay). The subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing period, and the Chronicle charges the payment method on file.2Houston Chronicle. Terms of Use If you signed up at a promotional rate, the renewal price can be significantly higher. Many subscribers first notice the change on a bank statement.
The terms note that the fee “in effect at the beginning of each billing period” may differ from your original rate.2Houston Chronicle. Terms of Use If a price hike is why you’re canceling, check your email for the notice the Chronicle is required to send.
Pausing Delivery Instead of Canceling
If you’re only trying to stop delivery while you travel, a vacation hold may fit better than a full cancellation. Print subscribers can set up a hold through the online subscription portal, and digital access stays active while print delivery is paused.3Houston Chronicle. Manage Subscription This preserves any promotional rate you would otherwise forfeit by canceling and resubscribing later. The portal doesn’t publicly list a maximum hold length, so log in to see what your account allows.
If You’re Charged After Canceling
If a new charge posts after your cancellation should have taken effect, contact Chronicle customer service first with your confirmation number. This is why getting that number at cancellation matters. Most post-cancellation billing errors trace back to a request that wasn’t fully processed, and the confirmation is your proof.
If the Chronicle won’t resolve it, the Fair Credit Billing Act lets you dispute the charge with your credit card issuer. You have 60 days from the date the bill with the error was sent. Send a written dispute; the issuer must acknowledge it within 30 days and resolve it within 90 days.5FTC. Keep copies of the cancellation confirmation, the disputed charge, and any messages with the Chronicle.
