To complete a change of address on your Kentucky driver’s license, apply for a duplicate credential within 10 days of moving. The 10-Day Deadline

Proof of Address You’ll Need
You need your current Kentucky license number and one document showing your name and new residential address, dated within the past year. Commonly accepted options include:
- Utility bill (electric, gas, water, cable, or landline phone)
- Bank statement
- Lease or rental agreement
- Mortgage statement
- Property tax bill
- Kentucky voter registration card
- State or federal tax return
- Pay stub or salary statement
- U.S. Postal Service postmarked mail

Changing Your Address by Mail
Download Form TC 94-192 from the Transportation Cabinet’s website, complete it with your new address, and mail it with a copy (not the original) of your proof-of-address document and a $15 payment. Changing Your Address in Person
Visit any Driver Licensing Regional Office with your current license and proof-of-address document. The Transportation Cabinet’s site lets you find offices and schedule an appointment, which is worth doing because walk-in capacity is limited.5Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. Updating Your Address During an Online Renewal
Kentucky does not offer a standalone online transaction for address changes. If your license qualifies for online renewal, though, you can update your address during that process, and there’s no separate charge on top of the renewal fee.6Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. Fees and When Your New License Arrives
A duplicate credential for an address change costs $15, whether your license is standard or REAL ID.7Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. Your permanent license is mailed and typically arrives in 10 to 15 business days. If it hasn’t shown up within 30 days, contact the Transportation Cabinet.6Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. Renew, Replace, Update a Credential Carry your temporary paper license in the meantime.
What Happens If You Miss the 10 Days
Failure to notify the Transportation Cabinet of a new address is a Class B misdemeanor, carrying a possible fine of up to $250, up to 90 days in jail, and court costs. In practice, the issue usually surfaces during a traffic stop rather than through proactive enforcement. There’s also an insurance angle: carriers price policies based on where your vehicle is kept, and a license address that doesn’t match your actual residence can complicate a claim or a renewal.
What Else to Update After Your Move
Under the National Voter Registration Act, an address change submitted through a state motor vehicle office also updates your voter registration for federal elections unless you opt out.8Office of the Law Revision Counsel. Title 52 Chapter 205 – National Voter Registration If you’re moving between counties, keep in mind that Kentucky requires voter registration changes at least 28 days before an election to take effect for that election.
Vehicle registration doesn’t move with your license. That’s handled by your local County Clerk, and you’ll need to update those records before your next registration renewal.9Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. Call your auto insurer too. There’s no grace period baked into your policy: rates depend on where the vehicle is kept, and a mismatch can lead to a denied claim or non-renewal.
Commercial Driver’s License Holders
The same 10-day rule applies if you hold a Kentucky CDL. CDL holders relocating from another state have 30 days to transfer, and the process includes surrendering the prior CDL and updating self-certification information.10eCFR. 49 CFR 383.71 – Driver Application and Certification Procedures Non-domiciled CDL holders should be aware that federal rules effective March 2026 require an in-person visit for address changes, with the state re-verifying lawful immigration status at that time.
