Changing Your Address Online

After you submit, you’ll get an electronic confirmation you can print and carry in your wallet with your current license.
If you don’t have a New Jersey driver’s license or non-driver ID but you do have a vehicle registration, you can still use the online system. Changing Your Address In Person

Changing Your Address by Mail

- Your last address of record
- A copy of your driver’s license or non-driver ID
- Proof of your new address, such as a recent utility bill in your name
The mailing address is Database Corrections Unit, PO Box 141, Trenton, NJ 08666. This is the slowest route. Because the one-week deadline is tight, mail only works if you can drop the letter within a day or two of moving.
Getting an Updated Physical License
Changing your address through any of the three methods updates the MVC’s records. It does not produce a new physical license with the new address printed on it. What Happens to Your Vehicle Registration
The one-week reporting rule applies separately to vehicle registration, so a move triggers both obligations.1Justia Law. Updating Your Voter Registration at the Same Time
After you submit your MVC address change, the system asks whether you’d like the change forwarded to update your voter registration. If you select yes, the MVC sends a notice to the Division of Elections, which updates your record and notifies the appropriate county commissioner.9New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission. You have to affirmatively click yes when prompted, or your voter registration stays at your old address.
What the MVC Update Doesn’t Cover
The MVC address change reaches your license, your registration, and (if you opt in) your voter registration. It doesn’t reach your auto insurer, which needs the new address separately because rates depend on where the vehicle is kept overnight. It also doesn’t satisfy federal reporting duties that some people have after any move: non-citizens generally must report a new address to USCIS within 10 days,10USCIS.
