The DE 2593 covers three things: whether you’re still disabled, whether you’ve returned to work or tried to, and any income you received during the certification period. Complete and return it even if you’ve recovered or gone back to work. Income You Have to Report

- Wages from your employer, including pay from modified-duty work
- Sick leave and any employer-paid time off
- Part-time work income, even if it was only a few hours
- Workers’ compensation payments
- Disability-related insurance settlements
Leaving income off the form can lead to an overpayment determination, penalty weeks, and a false statement disqualification. The 20-day window includes postal transit, so drop it in the mail the day you finish it.
What Happens After You Submit
The EDD generally processes payments within about ten business days of receiving a completed DE 2593.3Employment Development Department. Your next payment goes out through whichever method you picked when you filed the original claim, usually debit card or direct deposit.
If the EDD denies continued benefits, you’ll receive a Notice of Determination explaining why. If You Need Benefits Past Your Original Recovery Date
The DE 2593 does not extend benefits beyond the recovery date your physician originally certified.
