How to Complete and Submit the Cal Grant GPA Verification Form G-4

If your California high school or college did not send your GPA to the California Student Aid Commission electronically, you use the Cal Grant GPA Verification Form (G-4) to send it yourself. Download the current 2026–2027 version from CSAC, fill out the student section in black ink, hand it to a school official to certify your unweighted GPA, and get it to CSAC by email or mail before your deadline.1California Student Aid Commission. First, Check Whether You Actually Need the Paper Form

California Education Code Section 69432.9 requires every public high school and charter school to electronically submit GPAs for all graduating seniors by October 1, unless the student has opted out.2California Legislative Information. California Education Code EDC 69432.9 If that applies to you, your GPA reaches CSAC without any action on your part, and sending a duplicate paper form creates confusion.

The G-4 is for people the automatic pipeline doesn’t cover:

  • Private or independent high school students, whose schools are not bound by the automatic submission requirement.
  • Recent high school graduates whose school may no longer submit on their behalf.
  • Community college students applying with a college GPA or re-established GPA whose college cannot submit electronically.
  • Students (or parents) who previously opted out of automatic GPA sharing but still want to apply.

The form itself states it should be used “only if your school has not submitted your GPA and cannot do so electronically.”1California Student Aid Commission. The Deadlines You Are Working Against

Your GPA and your FAFSA or California Dream Act Application must both reach CSAC by the same date. There are two:

  • March 2 for current high school seniors, last year’s high school graduates, community college students transferring to a four-year university in the fall, and competitive award applicants.1California Student Aid Commission. Cal Grant GPA Verification Form

CSAC’s general position is that state law does not normally allow exceptions to filing deadlines, so treat the date as firm.3California Student Aid Commission. Cal Grant Appeals If you’re mailing, get a Certificate of Mailing from the post office. That receipt is your proof if the form gets lost.

Filling Out the Student Section

Download the 2026–2027 form from the CSAC website and use black ink. The top half is yours; the bottom half is for the school.

  • Social Security Number or Dream Act ID. Enter your SSN exactly as it appears on your Social Security card and your FAFSA. ITINs are not accepted. If you filed a California Dream Act Application and do not have a valid SSN, enter the Dream Act ID you received when you completed the CADAA.4California Student Aid Commission.   • Full legal name. Last name, first name, middle initial, as listed on your Social Security card or birth certificate and your financial aid application. Even small differences from the name on your FAFSA or CADAA can stop CSAC from matching your records.
  • Contact information. A current mailing address and phone number so CSAC can reach you if anything needs clarification.
  • Question 8, late appeal explanation. Only if you are filing after the deadline. Leave it blank if you are on time.

Do not try to calculate your own GPA. That is the school’s job.

What the School Fills Out

The bottom section, labeled “For School Use Only,” is completed by a school official (registrar, counselor, or designated administrator) who certifies the GPA under penalty of perjury.4California Student Aid Commission. California Cal Grant GPA Verification Form They enter:

  • The six-digit school code that identifies the institution in CSAC’s system.
  • The GPA type: Public High School, Private High School, College, or CCC Reestablished.
  • An unweighted GPA calculated to two decimal places on a 4.00 scale. The number cannot exceed 4.00.

Honors and AP courses get no extra weight on this form. If your transcript shows a weighted GPA above 4.00, the school official has to strip the weighting before entering the number.

For high school students who have not yet graduated, the GPA covers academic coursework from the sophomore year, the summer after sophomore year, the junior year, and the summer after junior year. Physical education, ROTC, and remedial courses (anything not counted toward high school graduation) are excluded. Submitting the Completed Form

Once the school official has signed, you have two options.

Email is preferred. Scan or save the form as a PDF and send it to studentsupport@csac.ca.gov with “Cal Grant GPA Verification Form G-4” in the subject line.1California Student Aid Commission. Cal Grant GPA Verification Form Delivery is faster and you get a sent-message record with a timestamp.

Close to the deadline, request that Certificate of Mailing at the post office; CSAC accepts it as proof of timely submission.

If You Miss the Deadline

CSAC allows a short late-appeal window when circumstances beyond your control kept you from filing on time. For 2026:

  • If you missed March 2: high school graduates (class of 2025 or 2026) and community college transfer students have until May 18. Cal Grant C and Competitive applicants have until March 23.1California Student Aid Commission. Cal Grant GPA Verification Form
  • If you missed September 2: community college students have until September 22.

To appeal, complete Question 8 on the G-4 with a specific explanation of what happened, then submit the form the usual way. Vague explanations are less likely to succeed, and the bar for approval is high.3California Student Aid Commission. Cal Grant Appeals

Confirming CSAC Received Your GPA

Log in to the WebGrants 4 Students portal at mygrantinfo.csac.ca.gov and check your dashboard.7California Student Aid Commission. WebGrants 4 Students Create an account and link it to your state records if you haven’t already. The status will show as received or pending.

If it stays pending for more than a few weeks, especially during the busy February and March period, call your school’s financial aid office. The most common cause is a mismatch between the SSN or Dream Act ID on the G-4 and the number on your FAFSA or CADAA. A single transposed digit is enough to block the match. Catching it early keeps you in the running for the initial round of award notifications instead of waiting on a manual review.
