How to Complete the FLVS Withdrawal Request Form: Flex and Full Time

The FLVS withdrawal request form is submitted through the FOCUS parent portal and officially removes a student from FLVS Full Time; if you are only dropping a supplemental FLVS Flex course, no form is needed and the process runs through the Student Dashboard or the assigned instructor.1Florida Virtual School. Figure Out Which Program You’re Leaving

FLVS Flex is the part-time option. Students take individual online courses through FLVS while staying enrolled at their regular school, so leaving a Flex course does not affect the student’s school of record.3Florida Virtual School. FLVS School Options FLVS Full Time is the student’s entire school. Withdrawing from Full Time means the student needs somewhere else to go: a new school, a homeschool registration, or another arrangement that satisfies Florida’s compulsory attendance law.

The two programs use different processes. The Flex path is quick and informal. The Full Time path requires the withdrawal request form and, for students under 16, a records request from the receiving school before FLVS finalizes anything.

Dropping an FLVS Flex Course

If your student requested a Flex course but has not yet been assigned an instructor, you can drop it yourself. Open the Student Dashboard, find the course box, and select “Drop Course.” The request disappears and there is nothing to submit.4Florida Virtual School. How Do I Withdraw From a Course?

Once the student’s status shows as Active or Classroom Assigned, the dashboard drop option is gone. At that point, contact the assigned instructor by phone or email and ask them to process the withdrawal.4Florida Virtual School. How Do I Withdraw From a Course? Submitting the Full Time Withdrawal Request Form

The Full Time form lives inside the FOCUS parent portal and can only be submitted by the parent or guardian who originally enrolled the student.2Florida Virtual School. FLVS Full Time Student and Parent Handbook The steps:

  • Log in to your FLVS FOCUS parent portal account.
  • From the Forms menu on the left side of the home page, select the “FVHS: Enrollment – Withdrawal Request (9-12) Form.”
  • Complete every required field on the first page, including the reason for withdrawal and the next school or program.
  • Click submit. A confirmation letter goes to the primary contact’s email once the withdrawal is processed.

FLVS also posts downloadable guides in English and Spanish if you want to preview the form before logging in.1Florida Virtual School. Enrollment Resources

The next-school field is not optional. For students under 16, FLVS will not officially process the withdrawal until the receiving school sends a records request confirming the student is enrolled there. Once that records request arrives, the academic file is sent to the new school within five school days.2Florida Virtual School. FLVS Full Time Student and Parent Handbook Homeschool withdrawals are the exception: FLVS processes those right away, but you then have 10 days to register the student as a homeschooler with your zoned district.

When You Withdraw Changes What’s on the Transcript

Every FLVS course has a 14-day drop/add period at the start. Where your withdrawal falls relative to that window controls the code on the transcript.6Florida Virtual School. FLVS Account Status Acronyms

  • W (Withdrawn): withdrawal during the 14-day drop/add period. Nothing appears on the transcript.
  • WP (Withdrawn Passing): withdrawal after 14 days with a grade of 60 percent or higher. No credit.
  • WF (Withdrawn Failing): withdrawal after 14 days with a grade below 60 percent. No credit.

None of the three codes earn credit. The difference is what future schools see: a WP shows the student was in good standing when they left, a WF shows they were behind. If you are near the 14-day cutoff and leaning toward withdrawal, submitting before the deadline keeps the transcript clean.

Check These Before You Submit

A few consequences catch families off guard, and it is easier to sort them out before the withdrawal is filed than after.

Driver’s License and Learner’s Permit

When a student under 18 withdraws from FLVS Full Time without transferring to another approved school or moving out of state, FLVS is required to notify the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles about the student’s non-attendance. That notification can result in suspension of the student’s driver’s license or learner’s permit.2Florida Virtual School. FLVS Full Time Student and Parent Handbook If your student drives or is close to driving, confirm the transfer to the new school is in place before finalizing the withdrawal.

Compulsory Attendance and Truancy

Florida law requires children between the ages of 6 and 16 to attend school for the entire school term.7Florida Legislature. Florida Statutes 1003.21 – School Attendance Withdrawing from FLVS does not pause that obligation, which is why the under-16 records request rule exists. Delaying the paperwork while your student has stopped logging in creates a separate problem: 15 or more unexcused absences in 90 calendar days meets Florida’s definition of habitual truancy, and FLVS tracks attendance through course engagement.8Florida Department of Education. Attendance and Enrollment Submit the form when you know the student is leaving rather than letting the enrollment sit idle.

Students 16 or 17 Who Want to Leave School Entirely

If a 16- or 17-year-old wants to stop attending school rather than transfer, Florida requires a formal declaration of intent to terminate enrollment, signed by both the student and a parent, acknowledging that dropping out is likely to reduce the student’s future earning potential. A school counselor conducts an exit interview before the withdrawal is processed.7Florida Legislature. Florida Statutes 1003.21 – School Attendance

Getting Transcripts to the New School

If you listed the next school on the withdrawal form, FLVS sends the academic file to that school within five school days of receiving the records request.2Florida Virtual School.
