Paying a Balance Due

If the return shows a balance, you can pay through the portal in a few ways. If you’d rather pay by check or money order, use Form N-200V, the individual income tax payment voucher. If You Can’t File by April 20

Hawaii grants an automatic six-month extension, moving the filing deadline to October 20, 2026. No form is required. Tracking Your Refund

The Department’s “Where’s My Refund” tool shows status online. Delays typically come from mismatches between your state return and IRS data. If W-2 withholding doesn’t line up with what your employer reported, or if federal AGI looks off, the state may hold the refund while it checks. Accurate numbers and electronic filing are the fastest route through.

What Late Filing or Late Payment Costs

Hawaii charges separately for filing late and paying late, and the two stack. The failure-to-file penalty is 5% of the unpaid tax for each month or partial month the return is overdue, capped at 25%.
