How to Fill Out and Submit the Florida FRS Direct Deposit Form

To set up direct deposit for your Florida Retirement System benefits, complete the Florida FRS direct deposit form online at frs.fl.gov, or submit the retiree paper version by mail to the Division of Retirement. The online route takes a few minutes and needs only your bank routing number and account number. Once your authorization is active, benefits land in your bank account on the last state business day of each month.

Enroll Online at frs.fl.gov

The fastest path is through your FRS Online account.1Florida Retirement System. Florida Retirement System – Retiree Newsletter Go to frs.fl.gov and log in. If you don’t have an account yet, click Create Account and register using your date of birth, last name, and the last four digits of your Social Security number.

From the dashboard, select Direct Deposit. Enter your bank’s routing number and your account number, then confirm. Check every digit before you submit. One wrong number will misroute the payment or bounce it back.

After the authorization is finalized, your monthly benefit will deposit directly into your account on the last state business day of each month.2Florida Retirement System. Florida Retirement System – Retiree Newsletter, August 2025

Use the Paper Form Only If You Can’t Enroll Online

The Division of Retirement accepts a paper direct deposit authorization for retirees who cannot use the portal. Download the retiree version from the FRS forms library at frs.fl.gov.

Do not use Form DFS-A1-26E. That form is labeled “for Vendors doing business with the State of Florida, NOT for Employees or Florida Retirement System Retirees.”3Florida Courts, Tenth Judicial Circuit. State of Florida Direct Deposit Payment Authorization Sending in the vendor form won’t set up your retirement deposit and will delay your enrollment.

The paper retiree form asks for the same core details as the online screen: routing number, account number, and whether the account is checking or savings. You’ll also provide your name, Social Security number, and a signature authorizing the state to deposit funds and to reverse any erroneous payments.4Florida Department of Financial Services. What to Have Ready

Gather this information before you start, whether online or on paper:

  • Your bank’s nine-digit routing number. It’s printed on the bottom left of a check, on your bank’s website, or available by phone.
  • Your account number, which appears to the right of the routing number on a check.
  • Whether the account is checking or savings. Picking the wrong type can cause the deposit to reject.
  • Your Social Security number, which matches the authorization to your retirement record.

For a paper submission, a voided check or an official bank letter confirming your account details helps prevent transcription errors when staff key the form in.

Where to Mail the Paper Form

Send completed paper forms to:2Florida Retirement System. Florida Retirement System – Retiree Newsletter, August 2025

Division of Retirement
P.O. Box 9000
Tallahassee, FL 32315-9000

Use a trackable mail service so you have proof of delivery. Paper submissions take longer than online enrollment because staff enter the information manually, so allow extra time before your next scheduled payment date.

When Your Deposit Arrives

FRS retirement benefits are paid on the last state business day of each month, and direct deposit funds typically appear the same day. If a scheduled payment date falls on a weekend or federal holiday, the deposit arrives on the preceding business day, because the Federal Reserve’s settlement service doesn’t run on those days.5Nacha. Without direct deposit, the Division of Retirement mails a paper check two business days before the scheduled payment date, but cannot guarantee on-time arrival.1Florida Retirement System. Florida Retirement System – Retiree Newsletter

Set Your Federal Tax Withholding at the Same Time

Direct deposit controls where your money goes. Withholding controls how much arrives. The Division of Retirement withholds federal income tax from every monthly benefit. Until you submit a Form W-4P, the default assumes you file as Single with no adjustments, which often withholds more than necessary if you’re married or claim dependents.6Florida Retirement System. Florida Retirement System Pension Plan Form W-4P

You can adjust withholding two ways:

  • Online, through the Federal Tax Withholding module in your FRS Online account.
  • By paper Form W-4P, downloaded from frs.fl.gov and mailed to the Division of Retirement at the same P.O. Box 9000 address.

If you want nothing withheld, write “No Withholding” on Form W-4P in the space below Step 4(c). You will then owe the full tax when you file your return, and the IRS may charge an underpayment penalty if you haven’t made estimated payments to cover it.6Florida Retirement System.
