How to Fill Out and Submit the UNT Course Override Request Form

There is no single UNT course override request form. UNT handles overrides at the department level, so the form, email address, and process depend on which department teaches the course you’re trying to add. Some departments publish a downloadable PDF or a Microsoft Forms link; others take requests by email to an advising inbox. In every case, you’ll need your EUID, the exact course and section details, a clear reason for the request, and often an unofficial transcript.

First, Confirm You Actually Need an Override

When MyUNT blocks your enrollment, it shows a specific error message. The message tells you whether a departmental override is the right fix or whether something simpler will clear it.

  • Department consent required: The course is restricted to certain majors, class levels, or requires instructor approval. MyUNT reads, “Department consent required to enroll in a class. Add not processed.”
  • Requisites not met: “Unable to add this class as requisites have not been met.” This appears even if you completed an equivalent course elsewhere.
  • Closed section: “Not enrolled. Class [number] is full.” Try the waitlist before an override.
  • Maximum hours exceeded: “Maximum term unit load exceeded,” which blocks credit-hour overloads.

Holds, time conflicts, and corequisite errors usually don’t call for an override. A hold means a financial or advising task is sitting on your record; check the Tasks tile on your MyUNT homepage. A minor time conflict can sometimes be resolved in MyUNT if both instructors agree. A corequisite error just means you have to enroll in both linked courses together.

Try the Waitlist Before Submitting an Override

If the only problem is that the section is full, join the waitlist first. Several departments, including Computer Science and Engineering, will not approve overrides for closed classes and will add you to the waitlist anyway. Submitting an override request in that situation only burns processing time.

In MyUNT, select “Waitlist if class is full” during enrollment and resubmit. The waitlist runs three times a day. When a seat opens, the student in position one is enrolled automatically and everyone else moves up. You’ll get a UNT email notification, but check your schedule directly rather than relying only on the email.

The waitlist won’t help if the block is a department-consent restriction or a prerequisite issue. Those require a direct override from the department.

Where to Send Your Request

Identify the college and department that teaches the course, then go to that department’s website and look for an override request form, enrollment request form, or registration assistance page. The process varies by department.

College of Science

  • Biology (BIOL/BIOC): Download the Biology Enrollment Request Form from the department website, complete it, and email it to biology@unt.edu.
  • Chemistry (CHEM): Email Chem-Advising@unt.edu.
  • Physics (PHYS): Complete the Physics Course Override Request Form on the physics department site.
  • Mathematics (MATH): Email MathAdvising@unt.edu.
  • Statistics and Applied Data Analytics (STAT/ADTA): Email Analytics@unt.edu.

Biology, Math, and Physics require proof that you completed prerequisites taken off campus, so have an unofficial transcript ready before you reach out.

Computer Science and Engineering

CSE uses a Microsoft Forms online submission for CSCE courses. The form asks for the course code, section number, and lab or recitation details if the class has those components. Attach an unofficial transcript when the course has prerequisites. CSE will not bypass your position on a waitlist and will not approve enrollment in closed classes; you’ll be added to the waitlist instead. Duplicate submissions slow things down. Requests are processed Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a four to five business day turnaround.

Other Colleges

For departments not listed above, contact the advising office for the college that houses the course:

  • G. Brint Ryan College of Business: RCoBAdvising@unt.edu (BLB 110)
  • College of Education: COE-SAO@unt.edu (Matthews Hall 105)
  • College of Engineering (general): Engineering.advisor@unt.edu (Discovery Park E201)
  • College of Public Affairs and Health Science: HPSAdvisingServices@unt.edu (Chilton Hall 112)
  • College of Information: ci-advising@unt.edu (Discovery Park C232)
  • College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences: classadvising@unt.edu (GAB 220)
  • College of Applied and Collaborative Studies: CACS@unt.edu (Sage 394)

Whenever you email a department, include the course code, section number, and the five-digit class number from the schedule, for example “COS 1100.009 (12345).” Without those details, staff can’t locate your section and the request sits until you reply with the missing information.

What to Put in the Request

Whichever department you contact, every override request needs the same core information. Missing any one of these pieces is the most common reason requests get delayed.

  • Your EUID. This is your Electronic User Identifier, your initials followed by four digits (like jds0012). It is not your eight-digit student ID. You can find your EUID on your MyUNT page.
  • Course and section details. Full course code (such as BIOL 1710), section number, and the class number from the schedule. If the course has a linked lab or recitation, include that section too. Leaving out the lab is a common mistake that forces a follow-up.
  • A specific reason. State why you need the override: a prerequisite waiver, a graduation requirement, access to a restricted course for a minor or dual-degree program, or a credit-hour overload. “I need this class” is not useful. “This is my last semester and BIOL 1710 is the only remaining course for my degree” is.
  • Unofficial transcript. Several departments require this for prerequisite verification. Pull yours from MyUNT before submitting. Even departments that don’t ask up front may request it during review.

How Long It Takes and How Approval Works

Most departments process override requests within four to five business days. Expect longer waits during the final week before classes start, when request volume spikes. Departments communicate through your UNT email, so check it daily during registration season.

Approval styles vary. Some departments email you a yes or no; others silently lift the block in the system and expect you to notice. If you haven’t heard anything after five business days and the add deadline is approaching, follow up by email, but don’t submit a duplicate request. Duplicates can push your original further back in the queue.

Not every request is approved. If a class is full and the department doesn’t grant capacity overrides, you’ll be placed on the waitlist. If a prerequisite waiver is denied, your advisor can help you find an alternative that keeps you on track for graduation.

Finish Your Enrollment After Approval

An approved override doesn’t enroll you automatically. In most cases, the department lifts the registration block and you still have to log into MyUNT and add the class yourself. Students lose seats this way every semester: they see the approval email, assume they’re enrolled, and discover weeks later that they never completed the final step. Log in within 24 hours of approval and attempt to add the course again. If the block has been removed, enrollment should go through normally.

For Fall 2026, the last day to add a course or swap sections is August 21 for the full semester and the first eight-week session, and October 16 for the second eight-week session.1University of North Texas. UNT Fall 2026 Semester Calendar If your override is still pending on the last day to add, contact the department directly; at that point, email won’t cut it, so call or go to the advising office in person.

Watch the Payment and Financial Aid Timing

Adding a course through an override late in the registration cycle can create payment and financial aid problems.

For Fall 2026, the registration payment deadline is August 13 for the full semester and first eight-week session. If you add a course during the late registration period (August 14–21), the late payment deadline is August 21 and you’ll owe a $75 late registration fee on top of tuition. The second eight-week session has its own payment deadline of October 8 and late deadline of October 16.2University of North Texas. Important Dates

Financial aid eligibility is locked based on your enrollment as of the census date. For Fall 2026, the census date for the full semester is August 21.1University of North Texas. UNT Fall 2026 Semester Calendar If an override is approved and you add the course after census, the additional credit hours may not count toward your aid for that term. If you need aid to cover tuition for the overridden course, submit your request early enough to complete enrollment before census day.
