The UT Austin waitlist form is a short online submission that opens February 15 for fall freshman applicants and lets you opt in to stay under consideration if seats open up.1University of Texas Admissions. Waitlist You reach it through the official waitlist page, log in with your UT EID, choose whether to keep your original major or request a different one, and optionally write up to 200 words of academic updates. That is the whole form.
How to Reach the Form
Once a waitlist decision posts to MyStatus, go to the UT Admissions waitlist page at admissions.utexas.edu and use the “Join the Waitlist” button, which links directly to the form.1University of Texas Admissions. Waitlist You sign in with the UT EID and password the Office of Admissions emailed you within 24 to 48 hours of your original application submission.2University of Texas Admissions. MyStatus
If you cannot find that email or have lost your password, use the UT EID Self-Service Tool at idmanager.its.utexas.edu to look up your EID or reset your credentials.3Identity and Access Management. Tools Do not leave this to the last day. Credential recovery takes time, and the window for submitting the form is finite.
When the Form Is Open
Submissions for fall freshmen open February 15.1University of Texas Admissions. Waitlist The closing deadline is tied to when your individual waitlist decision was posted to MyStatus, so check your portal as soon as you receive the notification and submit well ahead of your personal cutoff. After you submit, your MyStatus should show a status change confirming the form was received.
What the Form Asks For
Your Major Preference
The form asks whether you want to be considered for the major you originally chose or for a different one, and it lets you flag interest in other programs in case space opens up there.1University of Texas Admissions. Waitlist Some programs at UT Austin fill faster than others, so listing an alternate gives admissions more scenarios in which your name could come up. It is not a guarantee of anything, just a wider net.
An Optional 200-Word Academic Update
You get one text field, capped at 200 words, to share academic updates. Admissions may consider this alongside your existing application if space opens up.4University of Texas at Austin. Frequently Asked Questions Use it for concrete changes since you applied: a stronger senior-year GPA, new AP or IB scores, a significant academic award, a notable extracurricular achievement. Keep it factual and specific. Two hundred words is roughly a short paragraph, so every sentence should carry weight. A general plea to be admitted is not an update.
What Not to Send
UT Austin states this directly: additional materials such as letters of recommendation, continued letters of interest, or anything else submitted by you or on your behalf will not be accepted or reviewed.1University of Texas Admissions. Waitlist A teacher, counselor, or parent emailing admissions on your behalf will not help you. The 200-word field inside the form is the only channel for new information. Anything outside it gets ignored.
Submit Once, Carefully
Submit the form only one time. If you need to change something afterward, you have to cancel the original submission and resubmit the whole form; you cannot add to it.1University of Texas Admissions. Waitlist Read your major selections and your academic update carefully before you hit submit so you do not have to go through cancellation and resubmission.
Staying Eligible After You Submit
Only active UT Austin applicants are considered off the waitlist. If you cancel your admissions application or decline an existing UT Austin offer, you are automatically removed from the waitlist.1University of Texas Admissions. Waitlist Accepting a Coordinated Admission Program offer at another UT System campus does not cancel your main UT Austin application, but explicitly withdrawing from UT Austin does.
The waitlist is not ranked. The university does not know in advance whether any space will open or how many students will come off the list, and there is no way to check your position. Appeals and requests for additional application reviews are not accepted during this period. Decisions for fall freshmen are released by the last July orientation date or when the class is full, whichever comes first.1University of Texas Admissions. Waitlist
If an Offer Comes
Waitlist offers arrive through MyStatus, sometimes as late as July, and the turnaround to accept is short. Watch the portal and the email tied to your UT EID. To accept, you pay a $200 non-refundable enrollment deposit, which is applied in full toward your first semester’s tuition and fees and is handled through MyStatus once you accept.5University of Texas at Austin. Undergraduate Admission Students who can show financial need may qualify for help covering the deposit.
