To find your EDD account number, check the Employment Development Department Customer Account Number Notification letter (form DE 5614) that EDD mailed you after you filed your unemployment claim. The 10-digit number, sometimes called the EDDCAN, sits on that letter alongside your other claim documents. If the letter never arrived or you can’t put your hands on it, you can request the number through the Ask EDD online portal or by phone.
Start With the DE 5614 Letter
EDD mails the DE 5614 within 10 business days of a new unemployment claim.1Employment Development Department. You need the account number on it to finish registering for UI Online, and EDD staff will ask for it when they verify your identity by phone.
Check Your Other EDD Mail
The number is printed on more than just the DE 5614. Benefit payment statements, disability claim forms, and Paid Family Leave notices can carry it too, usually near the top with your personal information.1Employment Development Department. Request It Through Ask EDD
If the letter never arrived or you’ve lost it, the quickest self-service path is the Ask EDD portal. Choose the category Unemployment Insurance Benefits, the subcategory UI Online (UIO), and the topic EDD Customer Account Number, then select Continue at the bottom of the page to send your message.1Employment Development Department. You can also get the number by phone. The right line depends on the program:

Representatives take calls from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pacific time, Monday through Friday, except state holidays. Monday and Tuesday mornings before 10 a.m. are the busiest stretches. Disability and Paid Family Leave Filers
If you filed for State Disability Insurance or Paid Family Leave through SDI Online rather than a UI claim, your account number isn’t mailed the same way. It’s assigned at the end of your SDI Online registration, with a confirmation sent by email and by mail.4Employment Development Department. If You Think Someone Else Used Your Number
Because the EDDCAN is tied to your identity and your benefits, treat it like a Social Security number: don’t share it by email or text, and keep the DE 5614 somewhere secure.
