Returning the License and Getting Certified Copies

This is where things most often go wrong. Friends or family officiating for the first time sometimes forget to send the license back. Until the county records it, your marriage may not appear in official records. Follow up with your officiant within a week of the ceremony.
Once the license is recorded, you can request certified copies of your marriage certificate from the same office. Fees for certified copies typically run $10 to $30 each. Order two or three; you will likely need them for updating ID, insurance, bank accounts, and tax filings at the same time.
