You can replace a lost, stolen, or damaged Arkansas driver’s license online through the Department of Finance and Administration’s myDMV portal. The request takes a few minutes, costs $10.00 plus a small card processing fee, and the new card arrives by mail in three to five business days.1Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration. Drivers Most Arkansas drivers qualify, but a handful of situations still require a trip to a revenue office.
What You Need Before You Start
The DFA runs the replacement through a dedicated “Replace My License or ID” tool inside myDMV.2Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration. MyDMV Before you open it, have four things ready:
- Your full legal name as it appears on state records
- Your date of birth
- Your Social Security number
- The number from the license you’re replacing
The portal checks each entry against the DFA’s existing record. Any mismatch stops the request, so enter your name exactly as the state has it, not the version you prefer.
You’ll also need a credit or debit card. The portal doesn’t accept cash or checks.
Walking Through the myDMV Request
Once the system verifies your identity, it pulls up your current record for you to review. Check the address, name, and license class carefully. This screen is your last chance to catch a problem before the card is printed.
After you confirm the information and submit, the portal processes your payment and produces a confirmation screen. Print it or save a copy. That receipt is your proof that a valid license is on the way, and it’s useful to keep in your vehicle if you’re pulled over before the new card arrives.
What the Replacement Costs
Arkansas charges $10.00 for a duplicate driver’s license.3Justia. Arkansas Code 27-16-806 – Duplicates or Substitutes Expect a modest card processing surcharge on top of that, since the portal is card-only.
When the Card Arrives
The DFA mails the replacement to the address on file. The agency estimates three to five business days for delivery.1Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration. Drivers If the card doesn’t show up within a reasonable window, contact the Office of Driver Services. Mail delays and an outdated address on file are the usual explanations.4Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration. Driver Services
Changing Your Address at the Same Time
The myDMV portal lets you update your residential address during the same transaction as the duplicate request.2Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration. MyDMV If you’ve moved since your last license was issued, handle both in one sitting so the new card doesn’t go to your old mailbox.
Name changes work differently. A marriage certificate, divorce decree, or court order has to be reviewed in person at a revenue office. You cannot change the name on your license through the portal.
When You Can’t Use the Online Option
The online tool is for standard Arkansas licenses in good standing. These situations send you to a revenue office instead:
- Your license is expired, suspended, or revoked. The portal will reject the request, and you’ll need to resolve the underlying issue first.
- You need a legal name change on the card.
- You’re a non-citizen or hold temporary immigration status, since legal-presence documents have to be verified in person.
- You want to upgrade a non-compliant license to REAL ID for the first time.
For an in-person visit, bring whatever identification you still have. A passport, Social Security card, and recent utility bills covering your current address will move things along.
REAL ID and Your Replacement
REAL ID enforcement began on May 7, 2025. A standard, non-compliant license no longer works for boarding domestic flights or entering certain federal buildings.5Transportation Security Administration. REAL ID
If your lost license was already REAL ID-compliant, the online duplicate should come back compliant too, since your identity documents are already verified in the state’s system. If it wasn’t compliant, the online replacement will produce another non-compliant card. Upgrading requires an in-person visit with a U.S. birth certificate or passport, your Social Security card, and two documents proving your Arkansas address, such as a utility bill and a bank statement.6Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration. Arkansas Real ID Until then, a valid U.S. passport or passport card will still get you through airport security.
If Your License Was Stolen
Order the replacement the same way. The DFA’s online process doesn’t distinguish between a lost and a stolen license.
The extra steps are about protecting your identity. Your license carries your name, date of birth, address, and sometimes your signature, which is enough for someone to cause real problems. Call the Office of Driver Services and ask them to flag your file so no one can use your information to obtain a license in your name. File a police report with your local department. Consider placing a 90-day fraud alert on your credit file through any one of the three major credit bureaus: Equifax, Experian, or TransUnion. Watch your bank and credit statements closely over the next several months. If you find unauthorized activity, the police report becomes important evidence for disputing fraudulent accounts.
