Free Internet for Families With K-12 Students
T-Mobile’s Project 10Million gives qualifying K-12 student households a free mobile hotspot with 200 GB of data per year for five years. To qualify, you need proof of participation in the National School Lunch Program, SNAP, the Community Eligibility Provision, Medicaid, or the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations, dated within the past year. The 200 GB annual limit works out to roughly 16 GB per month. That covers homework, browsing, and email comfortably, but heavy video streaming will eat it fast.
Free WiFi and Hotspot Lending Through Texas Libraries
If you need to get online this week rather than wait for an application, your public library is the most reliable free option. The Texas State Library and Archives Commission maintains an interactive map of free public WiFi access points across the state, available in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese.2Texas State Library and Archives Commission. Who Qualifies

Under the 2026 guidelines, that’s roughly $21,546 for a single person and about $44,550 for a family of four.6U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. 2026 Poverty Guidelines
You also qualify automatically, regardless of income, if anyone in your household participates in any of these programs:
- Medicaid
- SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program)
- SSI (Supplemental Security Income)
- Federal Public Housing Assistance
- Veterans and Survivors Pension Benefit

How to Apply
All applications go through the National Verifier, run by the Universal Service Administrative Company. Your application must include your full legal name, date of birth, last four digits of your Social Security number, and your physical home address exactly as they appear on your records. Approvals through automated database matching can come within a few business days. Manual document review usually takes one to two weeks. Once approved, pick a participating carrier and enroll in a qualifying plan promptly; verified eligibility expires if you wait too long. Lifeline also requires annual recertification. Low-Cost Provider Plans in Texas
Several major providers serving Texas offer their own discounted plans for low-income households. These run independently of Lifeline, and some carriers let you apply the Lifeline discount on top of the already reduced rate. None require a long-term contract or credit check.

Optimum Advantage Internet

Spectrum Internet Assist
Spectrum offers 50 Mbps for $25 per month to qualifying households. The price drops to $15 per month if you receive SSI, participate in the National School Lunch Program, or attend a school using the Community Eligibility Provision.13Spectrum. AT&T Access
AT&T Access costs $30 per month for speeds up to 100 Mbps where AT&T Internet is available. Eligible AT&T Fiber households can save $20 per month on plans between 300 Mbps and 1 Gig, and households whose fastest available speed is 50 Mbps or less may qualify for a lower price. AT&T uses a broader income threshold than Lifeline: below 200% of federal poverty guidelines, or participation in a long list of programs including SNAP, Medicaid, SSI, TANF, Head Start, WIC, Federal Pell Grants, and the National School Lunch Program.14AT&T. Cheap internet doesn’t help without a device. PCs for People, a national nonprofit, sells refurbished desktops and laptops to households below 200% of federal poverty guidelines or enrolled in qualifying assistance programs. Prices typically run between $0 and $75 depending on stock. You’ll need a photo ID and documentation of income or program participation dated within the last twelve months. Bigger Lifeline Discount on Tribal Lands
Residents of federally recognized Tribal lands in Texas receive a much larger Lifeline discount: up to $34.25 per month.16Universal Service Administrative Company. What Happened to the $30 ACP Discount
If someone told you about a $30 monthly internet benefit, that was the Affordable Connectivity Program. It ended on June 1, 2024 after Congress did not approve additional funding, and no federal replacement has been enacted as of 2026.17Federal Communications Commission.
