Some centers accept advance appointments for MVR requests, listed under “Change, Update, or Other” in the online scheduling system. Not every location offers appointments, so check the department’s site for the center nearest you. Fixing Errors on Your Record
How you correct a mistake depends on what’s wrong. If an accident was reported incorrectly or attributed to you in error, visit the police department of the officer who was on the scene and ask for a review. An incorrect traffic conviction almost always needs a court order to remove. The department records convictions as reported by the courts and generally can’t change one without documentation from the court that issued it. Contact the clerk of the court where the case was handled.
Removing Points After a Speeding Conviction
If your record shows a recent speeding conviction, Tennessee lets you remove up to five points by completing an approved four-hour driver education course. The course has to be finished within 90 days of the conviction date, and this option is only available once every four years. If you hold a commercial driver’s license, the department keeps a fuller record on you. It records all traffic convictions, disqualifications, and licensing actions — including violations you commit in any vehicle, not just a commercial one — and retains them for at least three years.1Justia.
