To pay a Virginia traffic ticket online, use the General District Court’s Online Case Information System, look up your case by name, case number, or hearing date, mark it for payment, and submit a credit or debit card payment before 3:30 PM Eastern on the business day before your scheduled trial.1Virginia’s Judicial System. How to Pay Traffic Tickets and Other Offenses Paying online only works if your offense is prepayable and the court where the ticket was issued accepts online payments. Before you click through, understand what you are doing: paying the ticket waives your court hearing and enters a guilty plea. Serious charges like reckless driving cannot be prepaid this way.2Virginia’s Judicial System. Paying Your Traffic Ticket Online
What to Have in Front of You
Pull your summons before you start. You will need the ticket number, the court that issued it, and the amount due. No paper copy? You can look up the case on the Virginia Judicial System website using your full name, your case number, or your hearing date.3Virginia’s Judicial System. General District Court Information
Paying Through the Online Case Information System
Go to the Virginia Judicial System site and open the traffic ticket payment section for the General District Court. That takes you to the Online Case Information System, which is the portal that actually processes payments. The Statewide Search tool looks similar but only returns case information; it will not take your money.1Virginia’s Judicial System. How to Pay Traffic Tickets and Other Offenses
Accept the terms, then choose the specific court where the ticket was issued from the dropdown. Search for your record. If your case qualifies for online payment, a Mark for Payment link appears next to it. Click that, then Process Payment.
Payment is by credit or debit card, and a 4% convenience fee is added to every transaction. The cutoff matters: your payment must go through before 3:30 PM Eastern on the business day before your trial date. Anything submitted after 3:30 PM on a regular business day is treated as received the next business day.1Virginia’s Judicial System. How to Pay Traffic Tickets and Other Offenses
Save Your Receipt
The system shows a confirmation screen as soon as the payment goes through. Print it or save it right then. If you enter an email address, an electronic receipt is sent as well. Lost it later? You can reprint by re-entering the original payment information.
Give the record time to catch up. Your payment can take up to two business days to appear in the online case status, so checking the same afternoon may show nothing new.1Virginia’s Judicial System. If Your Ticket Isn’t in the System Yet
Most courts enter ticket details into the database within 10 business days of the offense. If yours was recent, wait a few days and try again. For technical trouble or questions about your specific case, contact the clerk’s office of the court that issued the ticket.2Virginia’s Judicial System. Paying Your Traffic Ticket Online
