How to Pay Georgia Tolls With or Without Peach Pass

To pay tolls in Georgia, you use the Peach Pass system run by the State Road and Tollway Authority. There are no toll booths on the Express Lanes around metro Atlanta. You either drive with a Peach Pass transponder (or an accepted out-of-state equivalent) that deducts tolls from a prepaid balance, use a cash-reloadable Pay n Go pass, or wait for a bill in the mail after cameras capture your license plate and pay that notice online, by phone, or by mail.1State Road and Tollway Authority. Which route makes sense depends on how often you drive the lanes and whether you want a card on file.

Paying With a Peach Pass Account

A standard Peach Pass account is the main way Georgia drivers pay. You open the account, get a small transponder in the mail, stick it to your windshield, and every time you enter an Express Lane the current toll is deducted automatically from your prepaid balance. The minimum rate is $0.10 per mile, and the price shown on the overhead sign when you enter is locked in for your trip.2Peach Pass. Frequently Asked Questions

To open an account you’ll need your name, address, phone number, and driver’s license number; the year, color, make, model, and license plate of each vehicle that will use the pass; a $20 prepaid toll balance to start; and a credit or debit card to keep on file. You can sign up online at MyPeachPass.com, by phone, or in person at a Peach Pass Customer Service Center.3Georgia.gov. Get Peach Pass

Every Peach Pass account is prepaid. You can turn on automatic replenishment, which charges your card when your balance drops below a set threshold, or add funds manually whenever you choose. Personal account auto-replenishment starts at $20, corporate at $40, and fleet at $50.4Peach Pass. Customer Agreement Manual replenishers need to watch the balance. Driving the Express Lanes with a zero balance triggers the same violation process as driving with no transponder at all.

Day to day, you can manage the account three ways:

  • Log in at MyPeachPass.com to check your balance, add funds, update vehicles, or change the card on file.
  • Use the Peach Pass GO! mobile app to open an account, manage payment methods, add funds, and handle violations.5Peach Pass. Peach Pass System Upgrade

Paying Without a Bank Account: Pay n Go

If you don’t want a recurring account or a card on file, Georgia offers the Pay n Go Peach Pass. It works like a reloadable prepaid card. You buy a starter kit at a participating retailer, load anywhere from $20 to $500 onto it, and use it on the Express Lanes with no linked bank account or credit card. There’s no minimum balance, and you can reload with cash at retailers, through the mobile app, or online.7Peach Pass. Pay n Go

Starter kits are sold at participating CVS, Kroger, and Walgreens locations across Georgia.7Peach Pass. Pay n Go This is the practical option for visitors, occasional users, or anyone who wants to pay cash.

Visiting Georgia With an Out-of-State Transponder

You don’t have to open a Peach Pass account to use the Express Lanes if you already have a compatible transponder. Drivers visiting Georgia with an E-ZPass, SunPass, E-Pass, or Quick Pass transponder can use it on the Georgia Express Lanes, and tolls are deducted from whatever account is linked to that transponder.2Peach Pass. Paying a Toll Bill or Violation Notice

If you drove the Express Lanes without a valid Peach Pass, or with an empty prepaid balance, cameras photograph your license plate and SRTA mails a toll violation notice to the address on file with your vehicle registration. Each violation includes the unpaid toll plus an administrative fee of up to $25.8Justia. Georgia Code 32-10-64 – General Toll Powers

To pay a violation online, go to MyPeachPass.com and select the toll violations option. You can look up the violation two ways: by entering the notice number and four-digit PIN printed on your mailed notice, or by entering your license plate number and state. Select “Continue” and follow the prompts to pay.9My Peach Pass. Pay Toll Violations

You can also pay by phone through Peach Pass customer service or by mailing a check to the P.O. Box address listed on your notice.

What Happens if You Don’t Pay

Ignoring a violation notice gets expensive fast. The penalty structure escalates like this:

  • First notice: the unpaid toll plus an administrative fee of up to $25 per violation.
  • If you don’t pay the first notice, SRTA refers the account to a collections agency.
  • For repeat non-payers, SRTA can refer the case to the Office of State Administrative Hearings. If OSAH finds multiple violations, it can impose a civil penalty of up to $70 per violation on top of the unpaid tolls and administrative fees.
  • If you still haven’t paid 30 days after the OSAH judgment, your vehicle registration is suspended by operation of law and stays suspended until every toll, fee, and penalty is paid.

A handful of missed $2 tolls can turn into hundreds of dollars and a suspended registration. Using an unauthorized electronic device to avoid a toll is a separate misdemeanor offense under the same statute.8Justia. Georgia Code 32-10-64 – General Toll Powers

Tolls and Your Taxes

Tolls paid for your daily commute are not tax-deductible; the IRS treats commuting as a personal expense. If you’re self-employed or a business owner and you drive the Express Lanes for business travel, you can deduct those tolls as a business expense. Tolls aren’t built into the IRS standard mileage rate, so you can claim them separately on top of that rate, or include them as an eligible cost under the actual-expense method.10Internal Revenue Service.
