To pay probation fees online in Louisiana, go to www.louisiana.feeservice.com, the third-party payment site the Department of Public Safety and Corrections uses for probation and parole supervision fees. The site accepts Visa, MasterCard, and Discover credit cards, debit cards carrying a Visa or MasterCard logo, and Direct Express cards from federal benefits programs. Each online transaction adds a $5.50 processing fee on top of what you owe. The Department recommends submitting your payment by the 25th of the month so it posts before your monthly obligation comes due.1Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections. Using the Louisiana Fee Payment Service
The payment portal is not on the Department’s own website. It lives at www.louisiana.feeservice.com, run by a contracted processor. Once you log in, you can see your current balance and apply a payment to your monthly supervision fee, to victim restitution, or to any other court-ordered financial obligation attached to your case.1Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections. A few payment methods will not work anywhere in the system. Personal checks, company checks, cash, and bank-to-bank transfers initiated from your own bank’s website are not accepted through any channel, online included. Trying to use them delays processing and can leave you showing as unpaid.1Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections. Timing matters. The 25th-of-the-month guidance exists because the processor needs a few days to credit the payment to your account. Submit on the last day of the month and the payment may not post in time, which can look like a late payment even though you paid.1Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections. Paying by Phone or Mail Instead
If the online option is not workable, two alternatives are available.
- By phone: call the Telephone Reporting System at 1-855-785-7225 and pay with the same card types accepted online. The transaction fee is $5.50.
- By mail: send a money order or cashier’s check only. No other form of payment is accepted by mail. The transaction fee is $4.00.
The mail route is cheaper per transaction but slower. A payment mailed after the 25th may not reach the processing center in time to count for that month.1Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections. Department of Public Safety and Corrections – Probation and Parole Orientation Packet
How Much You Owe Each Month
Louisiana courts must order a monthly supervision fee as a condition of supervised probation. Under the Code of Criminal Procedure, that fee runs from $60 to $110 per month, set by the court. On top of the base fee, courts impose an additional $11 monthly charge that funds the Department’s operations. The total monthly obligation typically lands between $71 and $121.2Justia. Louisiana Code of Criminal Procedure Article 895.1
The Department’s orientation materials list $71 as a standard supervision fee amount, which matches the statutory minimum of $60 plus the $11 surcharge. Your actual amount is whatever the judge orders at sentencing. The monthly obligation starts one full calendar month after sentencing unless the judge sets a different start date.1Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections. The supervision fee is not necessarily all you owe. Drug and alcohol testing is typically at the probationer’s personal expense, and electronic monitoring, substance abuse treatment, and mental health evaluations can add further costs depending on your conditions.3Louisiana State Legislature. If you are on unsupervised probation rather than supervised, the fee is capped at $1 per month.2Justia. Louisiana Code of Criminal Procedure Article 895.1
If You Cannot Afford the Payment
Louisiana law gives courts room to adjust when paying in full would cause substantial financial hardship to you or your dependents. The court can waive some or all of the fees or set a payment plan at a lower monthly amount. Victim restitution is the one category the court cannot waive without the victim’s consent.4Louisiana State Legislature. Louisiana Code of Criminal Procedure Article 875.1
Hardship is not frozen at sentencing. If your circumstances change — job loss, homelessness, a medical setback — you or your attorney can file a motion asking the court to reevaluate. Alternatives like community service, substance abuse treatment, education, or job training can be substituted for monetary payments.4Louisiana State Legislature. Louisiana Code of Criminal Procedure Article 875.1
Under Article 895.1, courts can also substitute community service for the monthly supervision fee itself if they find you cannot pay the minimum amount.2Justia. Louisiana Code of Criminal Procedure Article 895.1 Your supervising officer is also a resource. The Department encourages probationers to reach out when they need help finding community resources or have questions about their obligations.1Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections. What Falling Behind Triggers
Missed payments start an escalating process. The Department can notify the district attorney in writing once payments are 90 or more days past due. The district attorney then has broad authority to act: filing for probation revocation, petitioning for contempt of court, or pursuing other civil or criminal enforcement proceedings. Any additional court costs from those proceedings are added to what you already owe.5Louisiana State Legislature. Louisiana Code of Criminal Procedure – Probation Fee Enforcement
If you are on a court-authorized payment plan and miss a payment, the court will serve you with a citation to show cause why you should not be held in contempt. That citation must tell you that incarceration can only follow if the court finds you had the ability to pay and willfully refused, that you have the right to a lawyer, and that you can request alternatives like community service or a reduction of the amount owed.5Louisiana State Legislature. Louisiana Code of Criminal Procedure – Probation Fee Enforcement Under Bearden v. Georgia, a court cannot jail you for non-payment when you have made genuine efforts to pay but lack the resources; imprisonment is reserved for willful refusal.6Justia. Bearden v. Georgia, 461 U.S. 660 (1983)
Keep Your Receipts
Save the confirmation receipt from every online or phone payment. Disputes happen, and a receipt showing a transaction date before the 25th is your best proof that you paid on time. If you pay by mail, keep copies of your money orders and the mailing receipt. The processing fee ($5.50 online or by phone, $4.00 by mail) shows up on your receipt and is separate from your supervision fee balance.
You can check your current balance on the Louisiana Fee Payment Service site at any time. Watching the balance prevents surprises, especially when restitution or other obligations are running alongside your supervision fee. The 90-day window before the Department notifies the district attorney gives some cushion, but it is not a cushion worth leaning on.
