Adjuster: All Lines Miss that date and the costs climb quickly: a $25 late fee inside 90 days, a full reinstatement with new fingerprints between 90 days and a year, and starting over with the exam if you go beyond a year.
When Your License Expires
Your license runs on a two-year cycle tied to your birth date.2NIPR. Texas Resident Renewal Individual Same month, same day, every other year. The Texas Department of Insurance sends renewal notices in advance, but mail delays and email filters make those reminders unreliable. Track the date yourself.
Continuing Education You Need to Complete
During each two-year period, you need 24 CE hours. At least 2 must cover ethics or consumer protection, and at least 12 must come from classroom or classroom-equivalent courses.3Legal Information Institute. 28 Texas Administrative Code 19.1003 – Licensee Hour and Completion Requirements The remaining hours can be any certified format, including self-study.
Classroom-equivalent means an approved online course with interactive elements: timed progression, quizzes after each unit, monitored seat time. A passive click-through course does not satisfy the 12-hour classroom requirement.
Excess hours do not carry over. If you finish 30 hours this cycle, the extra 6 disappear when the new period starts.3Legal Information Institute. 28 Texas Administrative Code 19.1003 – Licensee Hour and Completion Requirements Hours you complete to fix a shortage from a prior period also do not count toward the current cycle.
Checking Your CE Transcript in Time
You can verify completed credits through Sircon’s continuing education transcript inquiry tool.4Texas Department of Insurance. What You Need to Know About Continuing Ed Course providers have up to 30 days to report completions, so a course you finish on Monday will not necessarily show up Tuesday. Build in a buffer of at least a month before your expiration date.
Fines for Missing CE Hours
If you reach your expiration date short on hours, TDI charges $50 for each deficient hour, capped at $500 per license type.5Texas Department of Insurance. Continuing Education Information for Agents and Adjusters Fall 10 or more hours short and you hit the cap. These fines are separate from any late renewal fee, they are non-refundable, and TDI will not process your renewal or reinstatement until they are paid.
Exemptions Worth Knowing About
If you hold a Texas adjuster license but live in another state, you generally follow your home state’s CE rules instead of Texas rules.1Texas Department of Insurance. Adjuster: All Lines Two exceptions apply: your home state has no CE requirement, or you hold a Texas designated home state license. In either case, Texas rules govern.
If TDI has licensed you continuously for at least 20 years, meaning no lapse longer than 90 days, you qualify for a CE exemption.6Legal Information Institute. 28 Texas Administrative Code 19.1004 – Licensee Exemption From and Extension of Continuing Education Requirements TDI or its designee notifies you in writing when you qualify, and you cannot claim the exemption before that notice arrives. You can also submit a written request asking TDI to evaluate your longevity. The exemption waives the CE hours only; you still pay the renewal fee and complete the renewal on time.
Fees and What to Have Ready
The renewal fee for an all-lines adjuster license is $50 through Sircon.1Texas Department of Insurance. Adjuster: All Lines The processing portals add their own transaction fees on top: roughly $5.60 through NIPR and roughly $8.25 through Sircon. Vendor fees can change.
Before you log in, have:
- Your Texas license number. Sircon’s Customer Inquiry tool can look it up if you don’t remember it.
- Your Social Security number, used for identity verification.
- Your current mailing address and email, matching what TDI has on file.
Submitting the Renewal Through Sircon
Log in to Sircon, confirm your CE hours are showing complete on your transcript, and pay the $50 renewal fee.1Texas Department of Insurance. Adjuster: All Lines The system will block the renewal if your CE is incomplete or you have outstanding fines. After payment, you should receive an email confirmation as proof of submission.
TDI processes the renewal and updates your public licensing record, usually within a few business days when nothing is out of order. Your new expiration date will be two years from your current birthday deadline. Once processed, you can print your updated license through Sircon; if you originally applied through NIPR, a small print fee may apply.
Disclosing Criminal History
The renewal process requires you to disclose any criminal history. Under federal law, anyone convicted of a felony involving dishonesty or breach of trust is generally prohibited from working in insurance unless they hold written authorization from an insurance regulatory official. If you have any convictions or pending charges since your last renewal, disclose them during the renewal. Non-disclosure is often treated more seriously than the underlying conduct.
If You Miss Your Deadline
The consequences escalate at firm cutoffs. You cannot legally adjust claims while your license is expired at any stage below.
Within 90 Days of Expiration

Between 90 Days and One Year

- Complete all missing CE hours and pay any CE fines, up to $500 per license type.
- Get new fingerprints through IdentoGo for a fresh background check.
- Submit a new application with a $50 application fee.
- Pay the $25 late fee separately. Through Sircon, you pay the application fee during the process and receive an invoice for the late fee afterward.
You do not have to retake the licensing exam at this stage.
More Than One Year Expired
Neither renewal nor reinstatement is available. You start over: complete outstanding CE, pay all CE fines, pass the qualifying exam again, get new fingerprints, and submit a new application with the full application fee.8Texas Department of Insurance.
