How to Schedule a Kansas Driver’s License Appointment

To schedule a Kansas driver’s license appointment, go to the Kansas Department of Revenue’s appointment page, pick your office and the service you need, choose an open time slot, and save the confirmation code the system sends you.1Kansas Department of Revenue. Which Offices Actually Take Appointments

Kansas does not run a single statewide appointment calendar. Ten full-service driver license offices use the Q-Flow Wait Line Management System, a virtual line rather than a scheduled booking: Andover, Derby, Lawrence, Manhattan, Mission, Olathe, Overland Park, Topeka, Wichita, and Wyandotte.2Kansas Department of Revenue. If your county isn’t served by one of those ten offices, renewal services run through your county treasurer’s office, usually on a walk-in basis without Q-Flow or online booking.

Booking a Priority Appointment

Start at the Department of Revenue’s appointment information page. The system walks you through three choices:

  • Your office location (only offices that accept appointments appear)
  • The service you need, such as a new license, renewal, REAL ID add-on, or CDL transaction
  • An available date and time

Enter a phone number or email so the system can send a confirmation. That confirmation includes a unique code. Hold onto it until your visit is finished. If you lose the email or text, you can still look up your reservation using the code together with the phone number you entered when booking.1Kansas Department of Revenue. Appointment Information

Rescheduling or Canceling

Your confirmation message contains a link back to the scheduling dashboard. From there you can change the date, pick a different time, or cancel the reservation. Canceling puts the slot back in the pool right away, so if your plans shift it costs nothing to release it. The same confirmation code and phone number combination gets you back in if the link stops working.

If Your Office Only Offers Q-Flow

Not every full-service office opens up appointment slots. For those that only run the virtual queue, the closest thing to scheduling is joining the Q-Flow line remotely before you leave the house. Go to getinline.kdor.ks.gov, select the office, choose the service, and enter contact information. The system holds your place and sends updates so you can time your arrival instead of sitting in the lobby. When your turn is close, you get a notification to come in.2Kansas Department of Revenue. You can also walk in and check in at a touch-screen kiosk in the lobby, but you’ll be behind anyone who joined earlier online and anyone holding a scheduled appointment.

Bring the Right Documents or the Appointment Is Wasted

An appointment only saves time if you can actually be processed when you sit down with the examiner. Kansas requires documents in four categories, and missing one means a second trip. Everything must be an original or certified copy; photocopies and electronic versions are not accepted.3Kansas Department of Revenue. Kansas Department of Revenue Division of Vehicles – Driver’s License Proof of Identity

One identity and lawful presence document. For U.S. citizens, that means a state-issued birth certificate from vital statistics (hospital certificates don’t count), an unexpired U.S. passport or passport card, a certificate of naturalization, or a certificate of citizenship. Non-citizens can use a valid permanent resident card, employment authorization card, or an unexpired foreign passport carrying a valid U.S. entry stamp.3Kansas Department of Revenue. One Social Security number document. A Social Security card showing your current legal name, a current W-2 or 1099 with the full number, or a current pay stub showing the full number.3Kansas Department of Revenue. Two proofs of Kansas residency. These must show your physical street address, not just a P.O. box. Utility bills no more than two months old, bank statements, a lease, vehicle registration, insurance paperwork, a voter registration card, W-2s, pay stubs, and government mail all qualify.4Kansas Department of Revenue. Name change paperwork, if your current legal name doesn’t match the name on your identity document. A government-issued marriage certificate, a divorce decree restoring a former name, a court-ordered name change, or adoption paperwork will bridge the gap.3Kansas Department of Revenue. What Happens When You Arrive

Check in when you get to the office. If you booked an appointment, present your confirmation at the counter or kiosk. If you joined the Q-Flow line remotely, the link in your confirmation text notifies staff you’ve arrived. Appointment holders are called ahead of the walk-in queue.

Once your number is up, the examiner reviews your documents, runs any required tests, takes a new photo and signature, and collects the fee. Kansas does not print the permanent card on site. You leave with a temporary paper printout valid for 60 days while the permanent license is produced offsite and mailed to your Kansas address.4Kansas Department of Revenue. One thing worth knowing before you book: that temporary paper printout is not accepted as valid ID at TSA airport checkpoints.5Transportation Security Administration. Acceptable Identification at the TSA Checkpoint If you have a flight during the 60-day window before your permanent card arrives, plan to use your passport or another federally accepted ID.

Do You Even Need an Appointment?

Many renewals don’t require an office visit at all. Kansas residents ages 21 through 64 can renew through iKan, the state’s online and mobile renewal system, at ikan.ks.gov or through the iKan app on Apple and Android devices. CDL holders are excluded and have to appear in person at a full-service office.6Kansas Department of Revenue. Renewing Your Kansas Driver’s License

Online renewal still requires a vision exam. You can have an eye doctor complete the state’s vision form and submit it, which skips the in-office screening entirely. Kansas also lets you renew up to a year before your license expires, so if an office visit does turn out to be necessary, you have plenty of room to pick a quieter week to book your appointment.
