The online route is fastest, and you get instant confirmation the change was received.
- ABE portal. Sign in at abe.illinois.gov, open Manage My Case, and choose Report My Changes. Update your contact information and submit.

- Mail. Write to the centralized address printed on your most recent HFS letter. Include your full name, date of birth, Medicaid client identification number (RIN), old address, and new address. Certified mail gives you a submission date on paper.
Whichever channel you use, keep a record of when and how you sent the update.

HFS may also ask for proof that you live in Illinois. The 10-Day Reporting Rule

Reporting late doesn’t automatically end coverage on its own. What it does is raise the odds you’ll miss a letter from the state and fail to respond to a redetermination or eligibility verification, and that is what ends coverage. Report the move even if you’re staying in the same city or county, because a change in who lives with you can affect how HFS calculates your household and income.
What Happens If HFS Mail Went to Your Old Address

The 30-Day Grace Period
If you miss your redetermination due date, HFS delays cancellation for approximately 30 days and sends a follow-up courtesy letter. The 90-Day Reinstatement Window
If the grace period passes and your coverage ends, you still have 90 days from your first day without coverage to submit the redetermination and potentially get reinstated. HFS reviews these case by case. If you’re approved, coverage is retroactive to your original renewal due date, and HFS will pay for healthcare costs you incurred during the gap.3Illinois.gov. After 90 Days

Your Right to Appeal If Coverage Was Terminated
If your Medicaid ended because you didn’t respond to a redetermination notice that went to an old address, you can appeal. In Illinois, you have 60 days from the date on the notice of adverse action to file. If you file within 10 days of the notice, your benefits must continue while the appeal is pending.4Illinois.gov. Moving Out of Illinois
If your new address is in another state, an address update won’t keep your Illinois Medicaid alive. Medicaid coverage is state-specific, and you can’t hold active Medicaid in two states at once. Temporary Absences
