The Irving watering schedule limits every property to two irrigation days a week based on the last digit of the street address: even-numbered addresses water on Tuesdays and Saturdays, odd-numbered addresses water on Wednesdays and Sundays. From April 1 through October 31, no sprinklers can run between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., even on your assigned day. Your Watering Days by Address
The schedule runs January 1 through December 31 with no seasonal breaks. Look at the last digit of your street number:
- Addresses ending in 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8 water Tuesdays and Saturdays.
- Addresses ending in 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9 water Wednesdays and Sundays.
No landscape irrigation is allowed on Mondays, Thursdays, or Fridays for any property, whether residential, commercial, or managed by a homeowners association.2City of Irving, TX. Summer Time Restriction
From April 1 through October 31, irrigation is prohibited between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., even on your designated day.2City of Irving, TX. City of Irving Code – Appendix A Water Management Plan – Section 3 Water Conservation Plan The blackout exists because midday watering loses a large share to evaporation before it reaches the roots. Program your controller to finish before 10 a.m., or start after 6 p.m.
Winter Watering Rules
From November 1 through March 31, the time-of-day restriction lifts, and the city recommends watering during warmer daytime hours to reduce the risk of freeze damage. Dormant grass needs far less water anyway. Irving suggests running the system manually no more than once a month during winter and turning the automatic controller off entirely.3City of Irving. When You Can Water Off-Schedule
A few situations fall outside the twice-a-week rule.
Hand watering with a hand-held hose that has a positive shut-off nozzle, a soaker hose, a bucket, or a drip system is a preferred alternative and is not tied to the assigned days.2City of Irving, TX. New landscaping qualifies for a temporary variance. If you’ve installed new sod, seed, or plants, you can request permission to water daily while root systems establish, and the variance period can exceed 30 days. Properties using well water or water supplied by the Dallas County Utility and Reclamation District (DCURD) are exempt from the schedule entirely. Well-water users must post a yard sign identifying the source, and all alternative sources must comply with the city’s backflow and cross-connection control program.

Other Water Waste Rules
Irving bans several forms of water waste year-round on top of the schedule. You cannot irrigate while it’s raining. You cannot run a sprinkler with a broken or missing head. And you cannot water in a way that sends a constant stream of runoff onto a street, sidewalk, or drainage area.2City of Irving, TX. Fines for Watering on the Wrong Day
Violations are misdemeanors, and fines run from $1 up to $2,000 per violation, per day. Every day the sprinkler runs on a prohibited day or during restricted hours counts as its own offense with its own fine.1City of Irving, TX. A forgotten irrigation timer is the most common cause. A controller set to three or four days a week will keep firing on prohibited days while you sleep, generating a fresh violation each morning. Reprogram it to your two assigned days and set the finish time before 10 a.m. during the summer.
Drought Stages Can Tighten the Rules
The schedule above is Irving’s baseline. When the city enters a drought stage, stricter measures override it, and watering can be cut to once a week or eliminated entirely depending on severity.5City of Irving, TX.
