Maine Medicaid Phone Number: Member, Provider, and Pharmacy Lines

The main MaineCare phone number for members is 1-800-977-6740. That line covers benefits, copayments, provider selection, and unexpected bills. If your question is about applying, eligibility, or reporting a change to your case, you need a different number: the Office for Family Independence at 1-855-797-4357, open weekdays from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Several other lines handle prescriptions, long-term care, mental health crises, provider billing, and fraud reports. TTY users can dial 711 to connect through the Maine Relay system on any of these lines.1Maine Telecommunications Relay Service Council. Relay Services

Appealing a Denial

Appeals aren’t handled by phone. If MaineCare denies your application, reduces your benefits, or terminates coverage, you have the right to a fair hearing, and you generally have 30 days from the date on the notice to request one. The exact deadline can vary by program, so read the notice carefully.14Maine Department of Health and Human Services. Frequently Asked Questions – Administrative Hearings

Send your written request to:

Commissioner
Dept. of Health and Human Services
11 State House Station
Augusta, ME 04333

Include your name, MaineCare ID or Social Security number, phone number, mailing address, and email. Certified mail gives you proof of the date received.

Timing matters. If you request the hearing before the effective date of the state’s decision, which can be as few as 10 days after the notice is mailed, the state must continue your benefits while the appeal is pending. Miss that window and your coverage may lapse during the process.15Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Understanding Medicaid Fair Hearings If the hearing upholds the original decision, you may have to repay the cost of services you received while the appeal was open.
