The fastest route is the Board’s public portal at findmydoctor.mass.gov. Select the license type, search by name or license number, open your profile, and click “Generate Verification of Licensure.” The site produces a uniquely identified PDF you can download or print as many times as you want, reflecting your license status at the moment you generate it. Two limits to know before you rely on this. First, the tool is only available for full physician and full acupuncture licenses; limited or temporary physician licenses have to go through the mail process. Second, many state boards require “primary source verification,” meaning the document has to arrive directly from the Massachusetts Board rather than pass through your hands. A self-generated PDF won’t satisfy that requirement no matter how official it looks. Ask the destination board which format they’ll accept before you generate anything.

Manual Verification by Mail

The Board does not publish a guaranteed turnaround, so submit early if you’re working against a deadline at the receiving state. Overnight mail on your end at least removes postal delay from the front of the process.

Forwarding an FCVS Profile

The Federation Credentials Verification Service, run by the Federation of State Medical Boards, stores primary-source-verified credentials in a permanent profile that can be forwarded to any participating state board throughout your career. The Interstate Compact Is Not Yet an Option

The Interstate Medical Licensure Compact offers an expedited multi-state licensure pathway, but as of 2026 Massachusetts is not a member. What the Receiving State Will Expect

Getting the Massachusetts side handled is only half the work. The state you’re applying to will have its own application, fees, and documentation on top of your Massachusetts verification.
