Louisiana, Tennessee, and Arkansas all allow statewide mobile sports betting; Mississippi does not.
Why Mississippi Still Has No Statewide Mobile Betting
The Mississippi House of Representatives has passed a mobile sports betting bill in three consecutive sessions. Each time, the effort has died on the Senate side.
In 2024, the Mississippi Mobile Sports Wagering Act, House Bill 774, cleared the House and moved to the Senate.2Mississippi Legislature. Mississippi Code HB 774 – Mississippi Mobile Sports Wagering Act Senate leaders stripped the language and inserted a placeholder to push the matter into conference committee. Negotiators never reached a deal, and the bill died in April 2024.
In 2025, Senate Bill 2379 was one of several vehicles aimed at authorizing mobile wagering.3Mississippi Legislature. Senate Bill 2379 – Mississippi Mobile Sports Wagering Act The House passed its version. The bill again collapsed in conference. In 2026, the House passed another mobile sports betting bill, which faces the same Senate hurdle that killed the earlier attempts.
Until both chambers pass the same version and the governor signs it, online sports betting stays confined to casino floors.

What the Proposed Legislation Would Change
Every mobile bill introduced since 2024 has followed the same core design: let people bet from anywhere inside Mississippi’s borders using a phone or computer, rather than requiring them to be inside a casino.
Mobile Operators Tied to Casinos
The proposals would not open the market to standalone apps. Each mobile operator would need a formal partnership with one of the state’s licensed casinos.2Mississippi Legislature. Mississippi Code HB 774 – Mississippi Mobile Sports Wagering Act The state would not issue independent mobile licenses.
Tax Rates
HB 774 said mobile operators would report gaming revenue and pay taxes “as provided by state law,” which applies Mississippi’s existing tiered structure.2Mississippi Legislature. Future versions of the bill could carry a higher online-specific rate, but every House-passed version so far has kept the existing tiers.
What You Could Bet On
HB 774 defined eligible events broadly, covering professional and collegiate sports. The bill explicitly included single-game bets, parlays, teasers, moneylines, over-unders, in-game wagers, and proposition bets.2Mississippi Legislature. That could change if Senate negotiators rework the text.
Who Would Be Allowed to Bet
Even after mobile betting becomes legal, not everyone will qualify.
Age and Location
Every user would need to be at least 21, matching the minimum age for casino gaming in Mississippi. Platforms would use geofencing to verify that you are physically inside state lines when you place a bet. Cross into Alabama or Tennessee and the app blocks the transaction, regardless of where your account was created.
Identity Checks
Federal anti-money laundering laws require sportsbooks to verify every user’s identity before accepting real-money wagers. In practice, that means providing your full legal name, date of birth, home address, and the last four digits of your Social Security number when creating an account.
Who Would Be Barred
Casino employees involved in sports wagering, athletes competing in events offered for betting, coaches, referees, and league officials with access to non-public information would all be blocked. Anyone on the Mississippi Gaming Commission’s self-exclusion list would also be prohibited from placing bets.
Using Offshore Apps Is a Crime
Some Mississippi residents get around the current limits by using offshore sportsbooks or unlicensed apps. That is not a gray area under state law.
