New Kent County’s real estate tax rate is $0.60 per $100 of assessed value.1New Kent County, VA. Commissioner of Revenue Tax Rates The Board of Supervisors sets the rate during each annual budget cycle, so it can change from one fiscal year to the next. What You Will Actually Owe
The rate applies to every $100 of assessed value. Divide your assessed value by 100 and multiply by 0.60. A home assessed at $300,000 owes $1,800 a year. A home at $450,000 owes $2,700.
Assessed value is what the county Assessor says your property is worth, and in New Kent that figure is set at 100% of estimated fair market value.1New Kent County, VA. Commissioner of Revenue Tax Rates The county reassesses every two years to track the market.3New Kent County, VA. Commissioner of Revenue Reassessment 2026 That means your bill can go up even in a year the rate does not. A property reassessed from $300,000 to $350,000 would see its annual tax rise from $1,800 to $2,100 at the current rate.
Setting the rate and setting assessed values are two different jobs. The Board of Supervisors controls the rate. The Assessor sets the value and has no authority over the rate itself.4New Kent County, VA. Commissioner of Revenue Real Estate

If Your Assessment Looks Too High
The rate is not something an individual taxpayer negotiates, but the assessed value is. If you think your property’s value is too high or is out of line with similar homes nearby, file an appeal with the New Kent County Board of Equalization. For the 2026 reassessment cycle, the application must be submitted by 4:00 p.m. on April 30, 2026, with hearings scheduled for June 2026.9New Kent County, VA. Board of Equalization
You can challenge the fair market value assigned to your property or the uniformity of the assessment compared to similar parcels. Recent comparable sales in your neighborhood are the strongest evidence. The Board can require ownership and value documents, question you under oath, and inspect the property. If the Board’s decision does not resolve it, Virginia law allows a further appeal to circuit court.
