Oregon Driver Manual Audio: Files, Test Read-Aloud, and Costs

The Oregon DMV publishes a free audio version of the Oregon driver manual as downloadable MP3 files, with a separate recording for each chapter of the 2026–2027 manual in both English and Spanish.1Oregon Department of Transportation. Oregon Driver Manual – Audio Version The audio content mirrors the printed manual, so you hear the same rules and safety information covered on the $7 Class C knowledge test.

Where to Find the Official Audio Files

The MP3 recordings live on the DMV’s Manuals and Publications page, which links to the audio version alongside the full online manual.2Oregon Driver & Motor Vehicle Services. DMV Manuals and Publications You can stream each chapter or download it to a phone or computer to listen offline.

What Audio Alone Won’t Cover

Recordings can’t show you what a sign or lane marking looks like. The DMV recommends using the online manual alongside the audio version so you can see the illustrations and diagrams while you listen.3Oregon Department of Transportation. Oregon Driver Manual – Table of Contents The knowledge test includes questions on the meaning of official traffic signs and signals, so pull up the signs chapter of the online manual at least once and match the descriptions you hear to the actual images.

Getting the Knowledge Test Read Aloud

The test itself can also be read to you, whether you take it at a DMV office or from home.

At a DMV Office

Knowledge tests given on touch-screen monitors in DMV offices are available with or without audio assistance. Bring your own earbuds or headphones to listen to the questions being read aloud.4Oregon Department of Transportation. Online From Home

Other Ways to Listen

Have Your Browser Read the Online Manual

If you want to listen to specific sections without juggling MP3 files, modern browsers can read web pages aloud, and the DMV’s online manual is standard text rather than scanned images.

In Microsoft Edge, right-click the page and select “Read Aloud.” A toolbar appears where you can pause, skip, adjust the reading speed, or choose a different voice. That’s useful when you want to slow down for dense sections like right-of-way rules and speed through material you already know.

In Google Chrome, highlight a section of text and use a free text-to-speech extension from the Chrome Web Store to read just that selection. Screen readers such as NVDA or JAWS work with both the online manual and the PDF version and can navigate by headings, so you can jump between chapters without scrolling.

Browser reading has one advantage over the official MP3s: the online manual is updated whenever the DMV changes a rule, so you always hear the current text.3Oregon Department of Transportation. Oregon Driver Manual – Table of Contents

Oregon Talking Book and Braille Library

The Talking Book and Braille Library, part of the State Library of Oregon and the National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled network, provides free audiobooks, braille materials, and specialized digital players to Oregonians with a visual, physical, or reading impairment.7State Library of Oregon. Talking Book and Braille Library Materials can be downloaded or mailed to your home, and the library loans free players to patrons who need them. Whether the collection specifically includes the Oregon driver manual is not confirmed on the library’s website, so if you’re registered and need the manual in an accessible format beyond what the DMV provides, contact the library to ask. The DMV’s MP3 files, by contrast, are available to anyone with no eligibility requirements.
