When to Call 407-348-2222 Instead of 911
Use the non-emergency line when nobody is hurt, nobody is in immediate danger, and whoever caused the problem is already gone. Reporting a theft after the fact, a noise complaint, suspicious activity in the neighborhood, or a question about an ongoing case all belong on 407-348-2222. If a crime is happening now, someone is injured, or a suspect is still on scene, call 911.

That said, don’t dial 911 for something you know isn’t an emergency. Under Florida Statute 365.172, knowingly using 911 for anything other than requesting public safety help is a first-degree misdemeanor carrying up to a year in jail, and the charge becomes a felony if a false call causes an emergency response that results in serious injury or death.2The Florida Legislature. For some non-emergency crimes, you can skip the phone entirely. What to Have Ready Before You Dial
The dispatcher will ask about location first, so know the street address or nearest intersection. That’s what determines which unit gets sent. After that, be ready to describe what happened in plain terms. Physical descriptions of anyone involved matter, especially clothing, because that’s what responding deputies use to identify people in the field. For anything involving a car, the make, model, color, and plate number are the most useful. After You Report
Non-emergency calls are queued behind active emergencies, so response times depend on what else is happening in the county. For lower-priority reports with no suspect to locate and no scene to secure, a deputy may follow up by phone rather than in person.
If you need a copy of the report later, the Sheriff’s Office Records Division handles requests Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., either online through the Public Records Request System or by mail to 2601 E.
