A “Paramount West Hollywood” charge on your bank or credit card statement is almost always a payment to Paramount Global, the media company behind Paramount+. In most cases it’s a monthly or annual Paramount+ subscription fee, but it can also come from a studio tour ticket, merchandise, or a digital rental. “West Hollywood” is simply the billing location registered to Paramount’s payment processing, not where you were sitting when the charge went through. If it looks unfamiliar, the usual explanation is a free trial that converted to a paid subscription, or a renewal you forgot was coming.
Why Your Statement Says West Hollywood
Card descriptors carry the city tied to a merchant’s payment processing, not the city where you shopped. Paramount’s billing is registered to an address associated with the West Hollywood area, so that tag appears on every transaction the company processes. Sign up for Paramount+ from your couch in Ohio and it still reads “West Hollywood.” Buy a shirt at the studio gift shop and it reads the same way.
What the Charge Is Most Likely For
The overwhelming majority of these charges are recurring Paramount+ subscription fees. The service has two tiers: Paramount+ Essential at $8.99 per month or $89.99 per year, and Paramount+ Premium at $13.99 per month or $139.99 per year.1Paramount Plus. Paramount Plus Billing Information Premium now includes Showtime content.
If your charge doesn’t match those numbers exactly, sales tax is usually why. A growing number of states tax digital streaming, and the added percentage varies. A $9.53 charge against an $8.99 plan is almost certainly tax, not fraud.
Free trial conversions catch people off guard more than anything else. When you sign up for a Paramount+ trial you enter payment information upfront, and the card is charged automatically at the end of the trial unless you cancel first.2Paramount+. Terms of Use People sign up to watch one show, forget, and see the charge weeks later. This is the single most common reason someone searches for “Paramount West Hollywood” on their statement.
Less often, the charge is an in-person purchase at the Paramount Pictures studio lot in Hollywood. Guided tours, VIP experiences, retail merchandise, and event tickets all run through the same billing system and produce the same descriptor.
If You Signed Up Through Apple, Google, or Amazon
Subscriptions started through the Apple App Store, Google Play, or as an Amazon Prime Video add-on may not say “Paramount West Hollywood” at all. Those platforms bill on their own, so the descriptor might reference Apple, Google, or Amazon instead. The reverse trips people up too: someone thinks they canceled on paramountplus.com but keeps getting billed because the subscription actually lives in an app store account.
Check your account settings on paramountplus.com. If it shows direct billing, you manage it there. If it says you subscribed through a third party, cancellation and any refund have to go through that platform. Paramount’s own support cannot cancel or refund a subscription managed by Apple, Google, or Amazon.3Paramount+. How and When Will I Be Billed for My Paramount Subscription
How to Verify the Charge Before You Dispute
Take five minutes to rule out legitimate explanations first. Note the exact date and amount, to the cent. Compare that amount against Paramount+’s current plan prices plus your state’s sales tax. If the difference is small, tax is the likely answer.
Search your email for messages from Paramount+ on every address you might have used. Order confirmations, renewal notices, and trial welcome emails will tell you quickly whether an account exists in your name. Then ask anyone in your household who shares your card. Shared family cards produce a lot of mystery charges, especially when someone restarts a subscription they had canceled months ago.
Still unclear? Contact Paramount+ through paramountplus.com/contactus with the transaction date, the exact amount, and the last four digits of the card. Their support team can look up whether a charge posted against that card.4Paramount+ Help Center. Why Am I Seeing Unrecognized Charges From Paramount+
Canceling to Stop Future Charges
If you recognize the charge but don’t want to keep paying, cancel before your next billing date. For accounts created directly on paramountplus.com, log in, go to account settings, and select the cancellation option. Access continues through the end of the current billing period, and you won’t be refunded for the unused days.5Paramount+. How Do I Cancel My Subscription
Paramount+ generally does not offer pro-rated refunds. Once a charge processes, the official policy treats it as final. Some subscribers report receiving a one-time courtesy refund after contacting support, particularly when an expired free trial is involved. It’s worth asking. Don’t count on it.
For subscriptions billed through Apple, Google Play, or Amazon, cancel in that platform’s subscription settings. A cancellation on the Paramount+ website will not stop a third-party billing relationship.
Disputing an Unauthorized Charge
If the charge is genuinely unauthorized, meaning nobody in your household signed up and you never created a Paramount+ account, you have two paths: dispute through your bank, or contact Paramount directly. Going to Paramount first is faster for simple situations. Their support team can look up the charge, confirm whether it’s tied to an account using your card, and process a reversal if fraud is involved.
For credit card charges, the Fair Credit Billing Act gives you 60 days from the date your statement was sent to notify your card issuer of a billing error in writing.6Office of the Law Revision Counsel. United States Code Title 15 – Section 1666 Most banks let you start the process through their app with a “dispute” button next to the transaction. Don’t sit on it. Sixty days sounds generous until a couple of billing cycles slip by while you’re trying to figure out what happened.
For debit card transactions, Regulation E applies. Your bank has 10 business days to investigate after you report an error. It can extend that to 45 days, but only if it provisionally credits the disputed amount to your account within the initial 10 business days so you aren’t out the money during the investigation. For certain transactions, including point-of-sale debit card purchases and transfers not initiated within a state, the extended window stretches to 90 days instead of 45.7eCFR. 12 CFR 1005.11 – Procedures for Resolving Errors
Keep records while the dispute is open: screenshots of the charge, any correspondence with Paramount+ support, and the date you notified your bank. Banks occasionally deny disputes when the cardholder can’t show they tried to resolve the issue with the merchant first. That step isn’t legally required for credit card disputes under the FCBA, but it smooths the process.
