You can pay your Florida driver’s license reinstatement fee online through the MyDMV Portal at MyDMVPortal.flhsmv.gov using a credit card or electronic check. Fees range from $45 to $500 depending on why your license was suspended.1Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. Fees The portal will only accept your payment after the court or agency that triggered the suspension has electronically notified the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) that you’ve satisfied their requirements, so paying the fee is the last step, not the first.
Check Your Status Before You Try to Pay
Start at the free driver license check tool at services.flhsmv.gov/dlcheck. Enter your license number and date of birth to see your current status. If your record shows “eligible” for reinstatement, you can go ahead and pay. If active holds still appear, the portal won’t let you complete the transaction no matter how many times you try.2Florida Department of Revenue. Driver License Reinstatement Option 1
Suspensions can stack. An unpaid ticket and an insurance lapse can sit on your record at the same time, each with its own fee and its own clearance requirement. The status check lists everything active, so you can work through the holds one by one. Full reinstatement doesn’t happen until every one is cleared.2Florida Department of Revenue. What You’ll Owe
Florida’s current reinstatement fees, by suspension type:1Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. Fees
- Standard suspension: $45
- D-6 suspension for failing to comply with a traffic citation: $60
- Court-ordered child support suspension: $60
- Department of Revenue child support suspension: $45
- Worthless check suspension: $55
- Revocation (non-alcohol/drug): $75
- Alcohol or drug-related offenses: $130 administrative fee added to the base reinstatement fee
- Insurance lapse, first reinstatement: $150
- Insurance lapse, second reinstatement: $250
- Insurance lapse, third or subsequent within three years: $500
- Commercial license disqualification: $75
These fees are nonrefundable. A DUI revocation combines the $75 base revocation fee with the $130 alcohol-related administrative fee, so the state portion alone comes to $205 before any court fines or program costs.
Paying Through the MyDMV Portal
Once all holds are cleared, log in at MyDMVPortal.flhsmv.gov with your Florida driver’s license number and date of birth. The portal shows your outstanding fees and accepts major credit cards or electronic checks.2Florida Department of Revenue. Driver License Reinstatement Option 1
If you’d rather not pay online, you have two other options: call the FLHSMV at (850) 617-2000, or visit any Florida driver license service center or tax collector’s office in person.3Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. Traffic Citations or Court Suspensions
If the system rejects your payment, the underlying hold hasn’t been released yet. Refreshing the page won’t help. Go back to whichever court or agency triggered the suspension and confirm they’ve sent the clearance electronically to the FLHSMV.
Clear the Underlying Hold First
What you need to do before the portal will accept your payment depends on why your license was suspended.
Unpaid Traffic Citations
Missing a ticket payment or a court date is one of the most common triggers. The clerk of court notifies the FLHSMV, and the suspension takes effect 20 days later.4The 2025 Florida Statutes. Florida Statutes 318.15 – Failure to Comply With Civil Penalty or to Appear; Penalty To clear it, resolve the citation itself: pay the fine, complete traffic school if ordered, or satisfy whatever else the court required. Once the county clerk updates the FLHSMV electronically, you can pay the $60 D-6 reinstatement fee through the portal.3Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. Traffic Citations or Court Suspensions
Out-of-state citations usually can’t be cleared entirely online. You’ll need a paid receipt bearing the court seal from the county that issued the ticket, taken to a Florida service center with the reinstatement fee.3Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. Insurance Lapses
Florida requires every registered vehicle to carry at least $10,000 in personal injury protection and $10,000 in property damage liability continuously, even when the vehicle isn’t being driven.5Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. Florida Insurance Requirements If coverage lapses before you surrender your plate, your license and registration are suspended.
To clear the hold, buy new coverage and have your carrier electronically file proof with the FLHSMV, including policy number, effective date, and covered vehicles. Paper proof carried into a service center doesn’t substitute for the electronic filing; the state database has to show the coverage before reinstatement will process. You then have to keep that coverage for two years after reinstatement, or you’ll face the next tier of fees and another suspension.6Florida Legislature. Florida Statutes 324.0221
DUI and Other Alcohol or Drug Revocations
Most of the DUI reinstatement process cannot be handled online. You must complete a state-approved DUI education course and any court-ordered treatment before you’re eligible to reinstate. If you reinstate after the revocation period, proof of enrollment or completion is required, and you have to finish the course within 90 days of reinstatement or your license will be cancelled again.7Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. Florida also requires an FR-44 filing from your insurance carrier, with liability limits of $100,000 per person for bodily injury, $300,000 per accident for bodily injury, and $50,000 for property damage, maintained for three years.8Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. FR-44 Bulletin Once the DUI program, FR-44, and any ignition interlock requirements are satisfied, you can pay the $205 state portion ($75 revocation fee plus $130 administrative fee) through the portal.1Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. Child Support Suspensions
A license can be suspended for falling behind on child support or failing to comply with a subpoena in a support case.9Florida Senate. Act fast on this one. If you contact the Child Support Program within 45 days of receiving your suspension notice, you may avoid the FLHSMV reinstatement fee altogether. Past 45 days, the fee applies.2Florida Department of Revenue. Driver License Reinstatement Option 1
Other Court-Ordered Suspensions
For other court orders, the court itself has to notify the FLHSMV that you’ve met its conditions, whether that’s community service, restitution, or a mandated program. There’s no way to speed this step up; it moves on the court’s timeline.
If You Live Out of State
Moving out of Florida does not clear a Florida suspension. Every state checks the National Driver Register when you apply for a license, and your new state will likely deny the application until Florida releases the hold.10National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. National Driver Register: Frequently Asked Questions You can still use the MyDMV Portal and the (850) 617-2000 phone line from out of state. Some clearances, such as out-of-state traffic citations, require mailing documents to the Bureau of Motorist Compliance at P.O. Confirming Your Reinstatement
Your status won’t flip the moment you hit submit. Check back through the driver license check tool at services.flhsmv.gov/dlcheck to confirm the payment processed and the suspension cleared. Save or print the confirmation page as proof of reinstatement. If your status still shows suspended after a few business days, call the FLHSMV, because a lingering hold from another agency may be blocking the update.
If court fines or related costs are stacked on top of the state fee, Florida counties periodically hold Reinstatement Days where clerks of court may reduce or waive certain fees and costs. The state reinstatement fee itself still has to be paid in full, but these events can meaningfully reduce the court-side bill.11The 2025 Florida Statutes.
