RI Medicaid Phone Numbers: HealthSource RI, DHS, and Managed Care

The main Rhode Island Medicaid phone number depends on which program covers you. Adults ages 19 to 64 and anyone calling about a child’s coverage reach Medicaid through HealthSource RI at 1-855-840-4774. Residents who are 65 or older, blind, or living with a disability, along with anyone applying for long-term care, call the Department of Human Services at 1-855-697-4347.1HealthSource RI. DHS handles Medicaid for people who qualify based on age (65+), blindness, or disability, plus anyone seeking long-term services and supports. The number spells 1-855-MY-RIDHS. Call center hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., excluding state holidays.2Rhode Island Department of Human Services. Contact Us

Wednesday is not a phone day at all — the call center is closed, not on limited hours. If you need to reach DHS midweek, the online portal and in-person offices remain open. Office locations are listed on the DHS website.5Rhode Island Department of Human Services. DHS Offices

DHS runs the Aged, Blind, and Disabled eligibility category and the Long-Term Services and Supports program. Both involve asset limits and medical assessments that don’t apply to standard Medicaid, so expect the caseworker to ask about bank accounts and property along with income.

Managed Care Plan Numbers

Once you’re enrolled, day-to-day coverage is handled by a contracted health plan, and that plan — not HealthSource RI or DHS — takes calls about prior authorizations, referrals, doctor searches, pharmacy issues, and claims.6Executive Office of Health and Human Services. What to Have Ready Before You Call

A short call is usually a prepared call. Before you dial, pull together:

  • Social Security numbers and dates of birth for everyone in the household who needs coverage
  • Recent proof of income — pay stubs, a tax return, or an employer letter
  • Your 10-digit Medicaid member ID if you already have an active case; Rhode Island uses a randomly generated 10-digit number rather than your Social Security number on enrollment records11Executive Office of Health and Human Services. Billing and Claims
  • Any recent notices from the state, since caseworkers will reference specific dates and deadlines on those letters

For DHS calls about the Aged, Blind, and Disabled program, add bank statements and information about property and vehicles. The state runs electronic asset verification, but having your own records helps you match what the caseworker sees.12Rhode Island Department of Human Services. Apply for DHS Benefits
