A charge labeled “Seattle WA” on your credit card statement almost always comes from Amazon. The company routes most of its billing through its Seattle payment system, and the short code printed next to the city name is the clue to which Amazon service actually charged you. Once you know how to read that descriptor, you can match the charge to an order, cancel a subscription, or dispute it if it isn’t yours.
What the Descriptor Next to “Seattle WA” Tells You
Amazon uses several billing labels, and each one points to a different kind of purchase.
- Amazon.com, AMZN.COM/BILL, AMAZON MKTPLACE PMTS, or AMZN Mktp US: a general purchase of physical goods from the Amazon marketplace, usually followed by an order code.

- AmazonFresh or amzn.com/fresh: grocery delivery through Amazon Fresh.
- Amazon Retail LLC: a purchase from an Amazon physical bookstore.
- Amazon Kids+: the children’s content subscription formerly called FreeTime Unlimited.3Amazon. Amazon Kids+
AMZN.COM/BILL is the most confusing label because Prime memberships, general marketplace orders, and digital services all use it. The statement text alone won’t distinguish them, so the next step is looking inside your Amazon account.2Amazon. Identify an Unknown Charge From Amazon
Why a Legitimate Charge May Not Match What You Ordered
Amazon splits and combines charges in ways that can make a familiar order look wrong. When one order ships in multiple packages or to different addresses, each shipment is billed separately, so an $80 order can appear as three smaller amounts on different dates.2Amazon. Authorization holds cause more of the same confusion. When you place an order, Amazon asks your bank to confirm the payment method, and the bank reserves the funds as a pending charge. If the order is changed or canceled, that hold can sit on your statement for five to seven days before the bank releases it.4Amazon. How to Match a Charge to an Order
Amazon has separate account pages for each type of transaction, and the fastest way to identify a charge is to match its exact date and dollar amount against the relevant page.
- Your Transactions: every charge tied to your payment methods, with dates and amounts.
- Your Digital Orders: Kindle books, video purchases, app downloads, and subscription renewals.
- Your Memberships and Subscriptions: every active, canceled, and expired subscription, with renewal dates and prices.5Amazon. Manage Your Memberships and Subscriptions
- Amazon Pay Activity: sign in at pay.amazon.com and check the Activity tab. Any 14-digit order number starting with “P01” belongs here, and the merchant’s name and order details will appear.6Amazon Pay. Unrecognized Charges
Prime Video add-on channels bill on their own cycle, so a channel renewal date may not line up with your main Prime billing date.7Amazon. Prime Video Channel Charges
Canceling a Subscription You Don’t Want
The cancellation path depends on what you’re canceling. For Prime itself, go to “Manage Your Prime Membership” and follow the prompts. For Prime Video add-on channels, open Account & Settings on the Prime Video site, choose “Your subscriptions,” find the channel, and select “Unsubscribe.” Canceling does not refund charges already processed, but access continues to the end of the current billing period.8Prime Video. For Subscribe & Save, open “Your Subscribe & Save Items,” select the Subscriptions tab, pick the product, and choose “Cancel subscription” before the “Last day to update this order” deadline on the page.9Amazon. Refunds for Accidental Purchases
Kindle book purchases can be canceled within seven days, as long as the book hasn’t been partially read. Refunds return to the original payment method within three to five days.10Amazon. For physical items from third-party sellers, open “Your Orders,” select the order, choose “Problem with Order,” pick the issue, and submit a refund request. Amazon typically reviews these within a week.12Amazon. Request a Refund From a Third-Party Seller
Disputing a Charge You Didn’t Make
If nothing in your Amazon account matches the charge, it may be unauthorized. For Amazon Pay transactions, Amazon points customers to the A-to-Z Guarantee claim process or the “Report fraud or misuse” option under Details & Support on the order. Investigations can take up to 45 business days.13Amazon Pay. Dispute a Transaction
If the charge doesn’t appear anywhere in your account, contact your bank or card issuer to block the card and start a chargeback, then change your Amazon password. Amazon also recommends turning on two-step verification and scanning your devices for malware.6Amazon Pay. Unrecognized Charges
When the “Amazon” Charge Isn’t From Amazon
Scammers spoof Amazon’s phone number and send fake texts and emails claiming a suspicious purchase was made on your account, often referencing a high-dollar item like a laptop or earbuds and pressuring you to call a number, click a link, or share a verification code.14FTC. Prime Enrollment Refunds Under the FTC Settlement
If your “Seattle WA” charge is a Prime membership you don’t remember signing up for, you may be owed a refund. In September 2025, a federal court entered a $2.5 billion stipulated order settling FTC allegations that Amazon enrolled tens of millions of consumers in auto-renewing Prime memberships without informed consent and made cancellation deliberately difficult. You may qualify for a refund of up to $51 if you signed up for Prime between June 23, 2019, and June 23, 2025, through one of the “challenged enrollment flows” (the universal Prime decision page, the shipping selection page, single-page checkout, or the Prime Video enrollment flow) and used no more than three Prime benefits in any 12-month period after enrollment.17FTC. Amazon sent automatic refunds to the clearest cases in November and December 2025. A claims process for anyone eligible who didn’t receive an automatic payment opened in January 2026, with payments expected in late 2026. Claimants can choose a check, PayPal, or Venmo. A Note on Whole Foods
Whole Foods purchases usually do not show up as “Seattle WA.” They post with their own descriptors, such as “WHOLE FOODS MARKET” or “WHOLEFDS” followed by a store code, and reflect the local store rather than Amazon’s Seattle billing address.
