High-Mileage Adjustment

Vehicles with more than 100,000 miles may qualify for a reduced assessment, but the discount is not automatic. Mileage is weighed against the vehicle’s age to decide whether the standard valuation overstates its worth.6Spotsylvania County, VA. High Mileage The three brackets are 100,000 to 115,000 miles, 115,001 to 130,000 miles, and 130,001 and above.

To claim the adjustment, submit documentation to the Commissioner of the Revenue showing the odometer reading, such as an inspection slip, repair bill, or oil change receipt. A photograph of the odometer is not accepted. Mileage reported after February 1 requires proof for the current year.6Spotsylvania County, VA. High Mileage

Vehicle License Fee

On top of personal property tax, the county charges an annual vehicle license fee: $25 for automobiles and $15 for motorcycles. These fees are separate from your state DMV registration and are billed alongside the personal property tax.5Spotsylvania County, VA. Local Vehicle License Fees for Vehicles

Personal Property Tax Relief for Personal-Use Vehicles

Virginia’s Personal Property Tax Relief Act reduces the tax on qualifying passenger vehicles used for personal purposes. The state reimburses localities for a portion of the tax on the first $20,000 of each qualifying vehicle’s assessed value.7Virginia Code Commission. Virginia Code 58.1-3524 – Tangible Personal Property Tax Relief In Spotsylvania for the 2026 tax year, the relief equals a 33 percent discount, so qualifying owners pay 67 percent of the tax on that first $20,000 of value.8Spotsylvania County, VA. Personal Property Tax Relief Changes Any assessed value above $20,000 is taxed at the full personal property rate.

Vehicles used primarily for business do not qualify.
